I had a 3D ultrasound at 16 weeks and I was able to see everything very clearly. It might be a bit early and if it was a 2D ultrasound it may make it very hard to tell.
Good Luck ;)

Well, it's pretty early for you to have an ultrasound anyway, and the chances of inaccuracy are higher. I'd get another u/s done at about week 20. That way, the genitals are fully developed, and you'll have a better chance of accuracy.

I'd also caution when asking the tech or doc who's performing the u/s and assessment to point out why they've come to the conclusion that it's a girl. Is it just that there is an absence of a penis, or is that they actually can locate labia?

I wouldn't just rest on the fact that they couldn't find a penis so it's a girl. Girls have external parts too, just not as big and prominent.

Good luck!

The non-visualization of a penis does not equal a female baby. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. If the ultrasonographer saw labial lips, you could be reasonably certain that you are having a baby girl. There can be many reasons why an ultrasound technologist cannot see a penis....umbilical cord in the way, babys legs slammed shut so you can't see between them, the area of the genitals down low in your uterus (baby sitting down on your cervix), etc. A technologist can only say boy or girl with any accuracy if they see either a penis or labial lips.

At 14 weeks, the babys femur bone, measured from hip to knee, only measures about 15 mm (or 0.6 inches). Look at a ruler to get a real perspective of how small this is. Now, think of how tiny a penis or labial lips would be......

The following site has measurements of a baby charted by week of pregnancy....

At 14.5 wks i would not trust what the ultrasound said about the gender of my baby. My doc said 20 wks or so is the best time to tell the gender of the baby. We had ours at 23 wks and 6 days and the tech said no question we were having a girl. He said at that stage in pregnancy if it were a boy there would be a definate scrotum visible and he also showed us that our baby had girl genitals (we saw the vaginal lips).

It's probably to early to be sure. If it's a boy, his "equipment" has not dropped out of the abdomen yet. Usually they cannot tell until at least 18 weeks for accuracy.

Good Luck!

It's too early at 14 weeks to determine gender by ultasound. Also, when someone is told they are having a girl, it's because the labia were seen, not because the tech didn't see a penis..

It's probably still to early to tell. It could be a girl, could be a boy and he could have been positioned the wrong way or it could just be to early. All that really matters is that he/she is healthy though. You will be blessed either way. They are both fun!

too soon to tell, I wouldn't count on it. They could not tell when I had one at that time. I am sure you will have another one in a few weeks and will be much more accurate.

How can they even tell at 14-15 weeks?
