Absolutely. They attacked us under two Presidents already, and continue to do so under the next one.

Yes. But they understand too the political rift in the country and know they can get away with a lot more under Democrat President. We were attacked back to back when Clinton was in office. We were only attacked once while Bush was in. Look at all the terrorist risings during each Presidency. But point is they want to destroy us and at least we have a President who has a spine to go up against them, finally! Unlike Clinton who just said, they are not top priority and do not overreact after the WTC was bombed in 1993. I just hope the next President will fight the war still and get rid of all this politically correct crap too!
they been attacking us and other countries for decades now. UN Hostage in the 1970s. The plane hijacking where they took it to Beirut. And countless other attacks since really the 1970s. And we are finally doing something about it now?! We should have had taken them all out decades ago! Sure we had desert storm, but that wasn't for us as much as it was to keep Saddam from taking over Kuwait and furthering his dictatorship.

Yes, there will always remain a virulent core of terrorist that will always try to harm the US. But by the time the next president takes office, our presence in Iraq is greatly reduced, and the new administration takes steps to repair the damage the threat will diminish. It will diminish because there will be no results of their hate and a bit of 'terrorist fatigue' will have crept in with the terrorists of opportunity that are only too happy to join the current bandwagon. Maybe it will diminish a little, maybe a lot, but it will never go away.

yes.
but leaving iraq will not only save lives (american and iraqi) but cool tensions. the middle east is mad that we keep interfering. some terrorists are more like the IRA (less about religion and more about soverignty). granted many terrorists are driven by a perversion of religion and will still be against us no matter what we do.
we should try to ease tensions as best we can

Yes it does not matter. Even before we went into Iraq, even before 9/11, terrorism is a threat.

You are correct that this garbage will not stop with a newly elected president.
The hatred from the middle east will continue until we stop the incessant meddling in the middle east that has been going on for more than 50 years.

And we'll be a little bit safer when we have an administration that DOESN'T make it policy to poke at sleeping dragons also.

Yep...we don't disagree on the threat, just how to address it...I for one, don't think we can ever call ourselves safe until we patrol our borders and increase harbor and border security.
