The cliché... "A fool and his money are soon parted" simply denotes that one who is a fool cannot retain money whatsoever! It is not within the capability of the fool to keep the money in reserve for bad times. The money may have come on its own due to fruition of karma of the previous manifestations. What if we do not behave wisely in the present manifestation!

One who is a fool... an unwise person... neither has the capability nor the ability to invest hard earned or ill gotten money wisely! In the circumstances... one would likely lose everything! It is for sure that the money gained by a fool does not result from the karma of present manifestation! Devoid of intelligence... a fool loses everything in life!

A fool is one who conducts ones actions without first giving it a thought! Foolish people neither have patience nor integrity to survive the rigors of life! The day would arrive when they lose everything! It is not within their capability to enact their karma properly! Devoid of intelligence such people while away their precious life for no reason or rhyme! More on Life - http://www.godrealized.org/truce_with_my_inner_self.html

The correct quote here is "A fool and his money are "soon" parted. When it comes to people tithing, many of them may well be intelligent, or not fools, so it takes a little longer to part their money from them, but is is still parted. Maybe it is really a case of there being intelligent fools. .

Ronin is right. Give him full points.

Jeri C has it the wrong way around. This is "the greater fool" cliche. If a person has bought an investment unwisely, then he may be able to sell it on before it is too late. He maybe able to find a buyer who is a greater fool than he.

Basically, if you're dumb, but have a lot of money, you'll lose it all. Whether spending too much, gambling, or having it confiscated by an authoritve figure, it's not going to be around long.
