I'm concerned America is shifting from "give me your tired, your poor, your downtrodden" to "batten down the hatches and lower the flag." I want us to be vigilant and safe, but I also want to keep the melting pot boiling hot. How can we find balance on this hot issue?

The biggest problem is that it is impossible to protect borders from terrorists. The weapon of terror is primarily a psychological weapon. The violence that is perpetrated by terrorists is only the first step in the process of destruction that it seeks to achieve. The object of terror is to terrorise governments, peoples and countries into acting in ways that destroy the fabric of society and set neighbour against neighbour, culture against culture.

There is a real need to be vigilant and to take reasonable precautions but the source of the problem and the issues that cause people to resort to acts of terror need to be intelligently examined and various means of combating terrorism need to be implemented. It is impossible to eliminate terrorism and terrorists only through aggressive military or arbitrary civic action.

But the greatest defiance of terror can come on an individual level when people courageously refuse to give into fear and do not allow their rational thinking to be clouded by panic. To live our lives in fear and to act out of fear means that the terrorist has already won. To give into fear means that we have allowed them to successfully take away our civility and our faith in our way of life.

America is a great country, but don't expect life to be easy or without hard choices. Six billion people live on this planet and most would prefer living here but we only have room for less than 5% of them. Good people that are good neighbors should go at the top of the list. People that don't respect our heritage, our laws, and our history go to the bottom.

There is no longer a balance. As we do with so many things in this country, we have to change the rules. We do not need uneducated scum to come here I think we do quite well raising our home grown. Drastic measures some time call for drastic action.
