the universe is expanding faster than light, and we can see parts of the universe regardless of the fact that they are receding faster than light. it is space-time itself that is expanding. matter is not spreading into existing space-time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshift

there are three causes of redshift: rapid recession of a light source, a very massive and dense light source, and the stretching of light due to the expansion of the universe. cosmic redshift is given by 1+z = exp(v/c) = e^(v/c). this is not the same as redshift due to rapid recession of a light source.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmic_inflation

the inflationary period also had an extremely fast rate of expansion. inflation seems to have begun when the Universe was 10^(-35) seconds old and continued until 10^(-32) seconds. during that time, the Universe seems to increased its linear dimensions by at least 10^26.

Good question. Here's the answer--but bear in mind that we are talking about something that the English language isn't designed to say; the only way this actually makes sense is if you describe it with mathematics.

At the moment of the Big Bang (time=0) the "stuff" of the universe was a "sinularity"--a single point, or as close to it as you could get (actually, the idea of a point, or size, soesn't actually make sense under those conditions--but again, that's the best you can say it in English).

And--under those conditions--the physical laws of the universe break down--they simply quit working. And that includes the whole idea of the limiting speed of light.

So--the "stuff of the Universe--which woud become matter, energy (anddark matter/energy)--began to expand faster than light. Scientists coined the term "inflation" to describe this--meaning that with the Big Bang, the universe started "getting bigger." But the concept of velocity, as we understand it, doesn't really apply either--but the effect of "inflation" was expansion at faster-than-light speeds.

A short time later (I forget the exact figure) the growing universe began to "slow down" as it got bigger andthe physical laws we know today began to operate. Soon, the "inflation" ended and the universe continued to expand--but at a velocity less than that of light.

Hope that helps--or at least doesn't make the confusion worse! :)

Most of the Universe is still expanding away from us faster than the speed of light. It's OK for objects that are far apart to have a relative velocity that is faster than light----this does not involve any potential violations of causality. It's only objects near each other that cannot have a relative velocity faster than light, because that would mean that the time ordering of events would be different for the two observers.

There are a couple of ways for two objects to recede from each other. The "ordinary" way is for "A" to move _through_ space relative to "B". But it's also possible for the space between "A" and "B" simply to "stretch".

The theory of relativity puts a limit (namely, the speed of light) on how fast things can recede _through_ space. But that limit doesn't apply to the rate at which space can stretch.

The expansion of the universe falls into the second category--the stretching of space between the bits of matter. So that allows it to expand at a rate faster than "c".

According to this Creation Theory the Universe out of a little very little little ball blew out expanding it radius vector at a phenomenal distance in zero minus second , which is a Time period of 1.35 x10^-43 seconds of our time as we measure a second on Earth. That means a travel distance =to phenomenal distances ,divided by the same time period that a micromass of light oscillates would give a result of quasi infinite speed.Hence Big Bang theory would indicate that the rate of mass formation was about 1.47185 x10^96 kg per seconds.
Hence forming a Universe on a faster scale than the 86400 seconds that the Biblical record of creation alludes to.

Hence I am not too Keen to believe that a singularity , of the Big Bang theory ,can form itself into a Universe that fast(1.35 x10^-43 seconds) of a velocity that would make the speed of light stand still. Note the modern statement that says nothing travels faster than "C" ( the measured speed of light relative to the Earth frame of reference.)

As they say 'You can believe what you want." but I just not convinced to exactly buy it.

Introspectively it appears that the Biblical account of Creation seems to be more pausible.

Einstein pronounced that our fact is in fact a merge between area time--subsequently, area time. As area is distorted, moved, etc, so is time. it is likewise primary that our universe is continuously increasing on the fee of sunshine each 2d. Time is diverse at diverse factors on the textile of area based on the distortion of area time brought about with the aid of a definite mass, regularly stars, planets, black holes. All rules of our universe are indigenous to in straight forward terms our universe, and because we are in a position to in straight forward terms hypothesize the existence of alternative universes, we are in a position to in straight forward terms hypothesize that diverse universes have diverse rules that are pertinent to that particular universe. on account that universe is increasing, it may the two shop on increasing indefinitely or boost and settlement and boost and repeat infinitely. and that's what proves God's existence: infinity. If God does not exist, then we, as human beings, are composed of a few trillion atoms, our planet is composed of a few trillionx10to the 24 ability atoms, our photograph voltaic device of 9 planets, our galaxy of everywhere from thousands and thousands to billions of photograph voltaic structures, our universe of trillions of gazillions of galaxies, and if different universes exist, our universe could desire to easily be a bubble in an ocean. Or, it may desire to be that there is even an more suitable set of device that tiers into infinity, or maybe our atoms' quarks could be broken down. we don't understand why rules in our universe are the way they're--and the only answer lies with debris that are so small that we've not seen of their opportunities. If all human beings could desire to comprehend and take in the quantity of our insignificance, there could be little doubt of God's existence, for there is too lots order defined in this fact.

For a certain period of time, (from the exact birth until the 4 forces emerged as different entities), the laws governing the universal constants - Gravitation, Speed of Light, force strength - were not set. While the nature of the universe is well set today, for a time it varied.
