I paid 45p per foot here in leicester for 7" X 2" beams so shop around.
Used railway sleepers are not a good idea.
They are bulky, extremely heavy and are treated with creosote which is toxic and not recommended for eating areas or where it comes in contact with your skin for some time, ie.. sitting on one.
good hunting

I used old wooded railway sleepers supported on breaze blocks. I got the sleepers for about £6 each inc delivery. They are so heavey that they dont move.
Looks loads better than that thin deaking you get from B&Q, will last for many more years and never needs cleaning.

My advice is to keep off them, they have been drying out for years in some house and as soon as you use them in a garden they will suck in moisture like sponges. byemebye you will need them replacing. If you must have a deck (And I don't know why you would) use treated timber and at least get some time out of it. Why do people feel a need to lay a deck when for years they had not been invented and no one missed them?

first get the calcs right for the size you need ..the golden rule is half the span plus one ....so if you have a twelve foot span with no supports ..then you need 7 by 2 at 400mm centres ..get the idea?8 by 2 for 14 feet etc ...you never know what you are buying when you buy second hand ..and for sure it wont be tanilised ..essential for exterior use ..in the long run save money ..buy new
