I have a 95 Pontiac Sunfire GT, and a piston went and I was wondering if anyone knew the estimated costs.

If it is a piston then it is not a matter of just replacing the piston. When a piston goes it almost always does damage to the connecting rod, the cylinder and the head. Take into consideration that you also now have little pieces of piston, cylinder head and cylinder wall flowing freely through out the crankcase, and you can see that this will be a very time consuming and costly repair.

This is a 95 Sunfire with how many miles? Even a swap and drop may exceed the total value of the vehicle (with a running engine). If this is the case, I would consider junking (I know it sounds horrible) the whole car and getting something new (new to you anyways).

(don't shoot the messenger)

How do you know a piston went. Have you done any diagnosis to confirm this. Are you sure it's not a head gasket or possibly a valve. you could get better answers if some symptoms were mentioned.

The age of the car and engine would dictate a swap and drop. Pull the old engine out and swap it with a rebuilt engine and drop in the new one.

There's no cheap repair option or better option for an internal engine problem.

Probably a $1,200 to $2,000 repair depending on where you get it done..

Good Luck!

If you are saying a piston cracked or has a hole in it, you need to replace the engine with a rebuilt motor. It would not be worth replacing one piston.
