its a well known fact that if Subaru made a 4x4 truck it would be the most kick *** on the market...

so why have they never done so?

they are held to a higher standard for 4x4 cars.. why dont they take that standard over to trucks?

Your right. They could have done so much more with the baja, I'm not sure what they were thinking.
Get it higher off the ground and get rid of the backseat. Change the front end so it doesn't look exactly like a legacy.
Offer the WRX STI engine in it!
Something like that would compete extremely well against small trucks like the ranger and tacoma.

As far as a bigger truck though, I don't think Subaru is up for that.

PS the tribeca is pretty kick***

I could be off base, but I'm pretty sure all Subaru's are technically called "light trucks" to meet epa regs. They look pretty much like cars to me. I'm thinking the powerplant on Subaru's is set up for a lower center of gravity. Personally, I'd like to see Mitsubishi import a compact diesel 4x4 pickup into North American markets. Their Larger line of Commercial trucks are bloody nice.

My guess is they don't believe it to be an economically viable decision. To me - and I love my Subaru - but to me, Subaru is kind of a "niche" car company . . . not out to make every type and size of vehicle imaginable. They do what they do - they do it very well.

Perhaps they might rethink that at some point in the future.

BTW - the Baja has been discontinued.

Subaru has had too much success building an all wheel drive car which has to be listed in the epa as an suv anyway to meet emission levels. why ruin a good thing

In addition to the aforementioned Tribeca, there is our old friend the Forester, which is more of a tall station wagon.

The Subaru Brat was so ugly like ALL Subarus of the era, few people purchased them. One cool feature was two seats with seat belts in the rear.
