It is very possible that the fish has a tumor of some sort. If it was a rapid onset kind of thing, it is also very possible that the fish is constipated.

They get constipated from eating a lot of dry, dehydrated foods. Fish flakes, pellets, sticks, etc. can all get bound up inside causing constipation.

An easy way to relieve constipation is to get a small amoun to frozen peas, put them into a cup with some of the water from the fish tank and allow them to dethaw. Then, once dethawed, gently squeeze a single pea so that it pops out of it's shell. Feed these thawed, deshelled peas to the constipated fish, and any other fish as well.

Peas are a natural laxative for fish and relieve constipation quickly. Try feeding it for several meals in a row to see if there is any improvement. For future reference, feed a meal of thawed, deshelled peas once a week or so to prevent constipation.

When a fish is constipated for quite some time, further bodily damage can occur. Problems with the swim bladder can cause swellings and difficulty staying bouyant as well!

Also, check the water parameters to check ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels. A partial water change is always a good idea when fish are feeling ill as well as once week. If water parameters are too high, then do a partial water change to bring those levels down to normal.

It could be either one. Yes, fish can get constipated if they don't have a proper diet. And just like for people, the solution to this is fiber. Silver dollars are primarily herbivores, so they should be getting lots of plant material in their diet. You can give them cooked peas or lima beans(remove the outer skin first), slices of zucchini and cucumber, small pieces of cooked or frozen broccoli, or green beans, or put a leaf of a dark, leafy green (romaine, collard, spinach, etc.) in the tank with a clip (it holds it in place so they can tear off pieces to eat).

If this is a tumor, there's really nothing you can do. Some tumors are benign, and won't actually harm your fish.

Start with a great dinner of bloodworms and brine shrimp, dim the lighting and slowly flip up a few candy candy fish lovin' tune, upload a bit of little bit of warmth and a few delicate crops for them to put in every single place and get all sassy with eachother and get ready your self for a few fish butter!!! Mmmm..... This regularly works, if it does not, not anything will!
