Hi I'm Jonty(Jonathan) Rhodes(not the cricket player). My wife and I are expecting our first in a couple weeks. I'm South African and my wife is Australian so we decided not to have an Afrikaans name for the baby. We are christians. We live in South Africa. It’s a baby boy and we've shortened our list of names. They are:
Brendon Dave
Trenton (Jack)
Abraham Benjamin (Call him AB)
Joel Finn (after a really close friend and his baby who passed away in the Tsunami)
Bryan (Xavier or Shaun)(Bryan is after my wife’s brother who died in an accident 2y ago)

Last name is Rhodes.

We are not sure about naming him after the people who passed away like her brother and our really close friend. This is because in a way its honouring but I'm scared that my wife might burst out crying if she hears her brother's name or Joel and Finn's name thinking about them. It's not happened yet but it could happen in the near future after we have called him that and that would be really hard on her.

I like Trenton Jack, but really like Bryan Shaun from your list.

Having Bryan after your wifes brother may actually help her instead of making her said, and if there are tears they could just be from joy.

The name I like the best from your list is Xavier Bryan Rhodes, I think it has such a nice flow to it even though I know I rearranged first and middle names.

Abraham Benjamin Rhodes is a long name even if you are going to call him Ab. Its nice but long. I think if you are going to name him after someone who has passed you might want to mix up the names like Bryan Finn Rhodes or Bryan Joel Rhodes because when you see Joel or Finn you will think about the other name too so its like honoring everyone at once. If I had to chose I would say honoring someone with the name of your child is a good thing. That way when you child grows up he will know that his name came from someone special to you and your wife.

Congratulations on the baby!

Brendon Dave - I like the name Brendon. Dave is good as well, however consider David. It flows a little bit better next to Brendon.

Trenton (Jack) - Trenton is a cute name as well, and great for both a child and an adult. Trent is a cute nickname. I like this one!

Abraham Benjamin (Call him AB) - I really like Abraham and Benjamin, but dislike AB a lot. If that is just a family nickname around the house, then great. However, if he will be called AB all the time, not so much. I don't like names that go by initials such as CJ and DJ (and in your case, AB).

Joel Finn (after a really close friend and his baby who passed away in the Tsunami) - I don't really like Joel and/or Finn, but it is great that you are honoring somebody who died in the tsunami. However, don't feel pressured to name your baby a name you dislike to honor a friend. There are other ways to honor friends than naming your child a name you dislike. If you think Joel Finn is the cutest name for you child, go for it! However, don't name your baby Joel Finn if you are only doing so to honor a friend. You can honor your friend in other ways.

Bryan (Xavier or Shaun)(Bryan is after my wife’s brother who died in an accident 2y ago) - I really like Bryan and Brian. Brian sounds better with Xavier, but I like the name Shaun (spelled Shawn) better. Also, same as Joel Finn. Don't feel pressured to name your child Bryan if you don't like the name. There are other ways to honor relatives that have died.

Good luck and God bless! My prayers are with you for the health of your child and the well-being of your family.

Although Joel Finn is the cutest name, sounds adventurous.

Next best would be Brendon Dave and Trenton Jack

Good luck and Congratulations!

Bryan Xavier. It's nice. She might cry a couple of times, but that's okay. It's healing and it shows that life goes on. In the end I think you'll be really glad you did it.
