It puts too much pressure on the elbow, so young pitchers aren't taught it anymore.
The knuckle curve is NOT a screwball. It moves the same way as a normal curve, but "floats" like a knuckleball instead of just breaking - the screwball moves in the opposite direction.
Sharon, it wasn't outlawed. You might be thinking of the spitball?

Most screwball pitchers from years ago had short careers. Teams have too much invested in pitchers today to take a chance on letting them throw it and pitchers have too much at stake as well with multi year contracts. Up until the mid 70's a player was always playing for his next contract so he'd be more apt to take a chance to get an edge (come to think of it they still are but they take a chance now with HGH and Steroids).

one of the toughest pitches to learn. Some pitchers could spend their entire career trying to perfect it and still not make it effective. Todays pitchers usually have only two to three pitches. Combo of, 4 seam fastball, 2 seam fast ball, curve ball, slider, change up. The 2 seam FB moves a lot like the slider, but cuts in towards right hitter or left hitters assuming a rt batter. Think Maddux during his prime. Ball looks like it is going to hit the batter in the knees, the cuts right over the plate.

It's very bad for the arm, especially for younger kids. It normally isn't a common pitch tought so alot of baseball players don't throw the screwball.

More pitchers throw the slider and cutter now.The full circle change is really effective also.Hardly any knuckleballers-Wakefield and not much. The screwball is gone with the wind, too hard on the arm.

It's a hard pitch to throw and younger pitchers don't have the patience to practice it.

It might be the Knuckle Curve that some pitchers have been throwing.

no pitch is more dangerous to throw because you have to twist your arm in a way that your arm doesn't naturally go

I think it is because there are more effective pitches that are easier to throw.
