problem with service pack 2?

Question

I have packard bell pc and usings windows xp home.
I installed service pack 2 and lost my sound.
I have run dxdiag and this tells me there is no sound card found
I have reinstalled drivers-and still cannot find sound card.
If i restore my pc to earlier date--sound comes back, but after reinstalling service pack 2 , i face the same problem.

Help pls--im going mad!!

With SP2 installed, install the driver BUT this time try it with ALL startups disabled. Disable them in msconfig. Just enable startups afterwards.
