You ask a hard one.
A trip like that can cost between $5000 and $12000 now, (see my answer to the question just above this one for details.)
In 3 years time, the prices may have risen, or gone down. The dollar might be worth as much as the Euro or even more, or it might have fallen down much more than it is now.
So you can double the numbers, or keep them the same. You know as much as I do.

Edit:
The other question I was revering to has been resolved and is not near at this time.
Absolute minimum for traveling at this moment is about $30 a day, hitch hiking, staying in the houses of people you meet while traveling.
When staying in hostels, $ 100 to $ 200 per day, depending on how much you spend on sight seeing and travel. Hotels can easily double that amount per day, and ten times as much is also not hard to do.
Your flight will be on top of that.
(These prices are in US $ and based on travel in western Europe.)
If you travel in Eastern Europe you will spend less or get more for your money.

You can check packet prices, as the people selling those keep a sharp eye out for what traveling costs and how the dollar does.
(I can always travel longer for the same money as a packet holiday.)

Its a bit early to be thinking about a trip in 2010. If you search around you will find that similar questions have been asked before. The cost varies depending on what countries you visit and what cities/towns you stay in. Generally, Western Europe is the most expensive and Eastern is cheaper.
