I love the name Mathias! It's a good alternative to the more common Matthew, which is also a good name that has very fond associations for me (my husband's name) but it's very popular.
Mathias also has a very archaic and exotic flair to it. It's masculine, but still easy on the ears.

I think Mathias if nice. Variation of Matthias, meaning "gift of the Lord". It's great. And Matt is always a good nick name. But what really matters is if you like it. If you do, just ignore everyone else and go with it.

While I like the name Matt, I prefer it as a nickname for Mathew. Mathias sounds far too formal and religious. If that's what you were going for than you got it. If it's not, I would consider Mathew instead.

Really cute!!!! A great alternative to the more popular Matthew!!! However, if you plan on calling him Matt, I would go with Matthias, the English version of the German Mathias.

It proably will depend on the middle name, but I think you can pull it off.
