They are in a communal tank, and last time the other fish ate them, so this time I have put them in a glass with a loose glass lid in the same tank. Does anyone know if they will be alright in there? Do the parent fish attend them at all and how long will it be before they hatch?

Hi, Yes you can hatch them yourself. You will need a small tank, heater, airline, a air pump, air stone, and medication for egg fungus. Set up the tank with water from the parents tank and place the heater in the tank. Make sure the temp is 80 degrees F. Next place the eggs in the tank against the back wall of the tank with the eggs facing forward. Place the air stone and airline next to the eggs. The air coming out of the air stone at slow to med rate. Next add the medication for egg fungus. In few days you will see tiny wiggler were there where once eggs. When the fry become free swimming you can then begin feeding them newly hatched brine shrimp.

Have a look at this information :
Over 97% of all known fishes are oviparous, that is, the eggs develop outside the mother's body.
The newly-hatched young of oviparous fish are called larvae. They are usually poorly formed, carry a large yolk sac (from which they gain their nutrition) and are very different in appearance to juvenile and adult specimens of their species. The larval period in oviparous fish is relatively short however (usually only several weeks), and larvae rapidly grow and change appearance and structure

I think you have done really well considering the other fish ate them once already i would guess they will survive anything now.
