I don't know about 50%, but no baby can survive outside the womb before 21 weeks. The survival rate at that point is minimal, though. Nowhere near 50%.

After 23 weeks’ gestation, a baby has just a 16% chance of surviving with intensive care, and a 64% risk of serious disability. At 24 weeks, survival is 44%, but by 25 weeks, the survival rate is 63% and risk of severe disability is 40%.

Any time you have a baby before it's time there going to be a problem. But you have a baby has a better chance of living if it's over 24 weeks. But I heard of baby coming at 20 weeks and still make it. It all depends on how strong the baby is. Hope This helps Good Luck !

i am not exactly sure about 50 percent but i do know that once you hit 30 weeks your baby has a 90 percent chance of survival outside of the womb. I also know that a baby cannot survive outside of the womb until it is at least 21 weeks gestation and even then the chances are very slim.

The youngest UK baby I have heard of is 22.5 weeks. Survival before 24weeks is a very low percentage. It really depends why the baby was born early. The changes of the baby having health issues increase the lower the gestation.
Try looking on www.bliss.org.uk the premature baby website webside for further information.
My baba was born at 26 weeks and needed weeks of intensive care, and was in hospital for 11 weeks in total. It was touch and go at the start but we were lucky.

I think the baby does the best chance after 24 weeks of pregnancy. But I don't know if his brains and body are OK then.

I have a cousin who was born at 20 weeks and sadly he was dead when he came out, the birth was too much for him. But now i have a cousin and she was born at 28 weeks and she is 6 months old now and perfectly healthy! I think after 25 weeks they have a pretty good chance

I think i was told that the best amount of time was at least 26 weeks. Once you are past then, you have a much better time growing and fighting infection and things of the sort because most important parts are formed by then. After that it's a matter of the little things and putting on weight.
