Pythagoras theorem says: the slanted line in a right angle is equal to square root of the sum of the squares of the other sides. Then x= sq rt of (42*2 + 31*2) , x= 52.2, and the perimeter is = 52.2 +31+42 = 125.2

by using the pythagorean theorem, it is like this : A squared + B squared = C squared. (C is always slanted side)
Step 1 - A squared + B squared = C squared
Step 2 - 31 squared + 42 squared = C squared
Step 3 - 961 + 1764 = C squared
Step 4 - 2725 = C squared
Step 5 - 2725 = squared root of C
Step 6 - C = 52.20'
Step 7 - perimeter is 52.2 + 31 + 42
Step 8 - Perimeter is 125.2'

Hope that helped!

!st let me give you the pathagorean therom: it's a^2+b^2=c^2

thats a sqaured plus b squared equals c squared.

now you plug in the numbers, by the way, the legs(which are the side and bottom) can be either a or b, the slantted line(or hypotenuse) is always c.

a^2+b^2=c^2

31^2+42^2=c^2

961+1764=c^2

2725=c^2

now, you have to find the square root of 2725 in order to get c by itself.
_____
\/2725 = c

c=about 52
actual number is 52.201

now add all the sides together.

31+42+52=125

Since this is a right triangle, you can use the Pythagorean Theorem. The hypotenuse is sqrt(42^2 + 31^2).
