What would be the consequences if laws were changed to make it easier for candidates from minor parties to get on ballots and receive government funding for their campaigns?

They would be struck down as discriminatory. The federal government cannot favor one group over another.

Well you've come to the right place.

You can get on any ballot for President in any state if you are able to submit a certain number of signatures from registered voters from that state on you petition. As far as government funding, again you have to be able to show a certain amount of support for your campaign. Why should the government fund some minor candidate if he can only show 2% of the people would support him/her?
