Engine is the 1.0 L with a 3 speed auto matic, manual says it takes 1.8 QTS of fluid after filter change, but I have stuck like four QTS in just to get it to the cold mark on the dipstick with the engine running and the shift lever in park.

the engine should not be running you want everything to settle to get a correct level.

You always check an automatic with the engine running. Four quarts sounds about right.
Older rear wheel drive Chevy cars/trucks would take about 3 1/2 quarts to fill after doing a drain and filter change. The newer small cars hold more because they are front wheel drive and have a "transaxle" which is a combination differential and transmission.

Most sticks or manuals hold less oil (some take regular motor oil) or tranny fluid depending of course on whether they are front or rear wheel drive.

Good Luck!

the computerized transmission fluid point is distinctive than oil, you DO opt to confirm it with the engine working, and the trans in park (impartial for some autos). EDIT: absolutely everyone telling you to confirm ATF point with the engine off has no concept what the **** they are speaking approximately. the computerized transmission has its own fluid pump that has to fill the torque converter in the previous an precise fluid point could be seen.
