I had the same problem when I moved to our "new" house the previous owners had "untreated" pets.. So, I sprinkled the carpets liberally with baking soda mixed with iodized salt.. Left it sit overnight... I also put a cheapie flea collar in my vacuum cleaner canister to kill any fleas I vacuumed up... .The BS smother any live fleas/larve and the salt dissolves the eggs... Plus it deodorized the carpets and pulls out any loose dirt.. You'll see the BS/Salt come up grey... You can get BS/Salt from the local wholesale club for 12 lbs of BS $5 and the salt is around $3. If you want to check for any live fleas leave a dish with 1/2 inch of water with a few drops of dishsoap and a light shining in it.. Fleas are attracted to the light and the water/dishsoap kills them !!! You may have to repeat the process a couple times. Since a fleas eggs/larve mature every two weeks.. .We also bombed a couple times and have since had no problems... The total cost was about $50

Flea bombs are actually probably the easiest way. All you have to do is make sure your pilot lights are blown out, turn off your a/c, fans and anything that may cause a spark, set up the bombs and leave for a few hours. You also need to cover all dishes and make sure there is no food or open containers laying around. It is also a good idea to wash off your counters after it is done, because the fog can settle on the counters. If you have any fish in the house, you must remove them or they will die, sometimes taking a week or longer.

However, if you don't want to go through that, you can try flea powder. They make different kids that you can use on your carpet and/or your furniture, but it is messy and can be a pain to use. Plus, it does not kill the fleas immediately and they can go crazy attacking the heck out of you, until they die. You will also have to wash all bedding and clothes in your home, because the fleas will get into them as well. When you lay down the powder, you need to sweep or brush it in, so that it works it's way all they way through the carpet, then you have to vacuum like crazy a few times for a couple of weeks, always being sure to discard the vacuum bags. you will also need ot vacuum baseboards, behind doors, cracks in tiles, under the furniture and anywhere else dust settles, as fleas live there too. Even if you use Skoosh or any other product, you still have to wash all clothes, curtains, bedding etc to be sure they are all gone.

The sprays have the same problem as the powders. Even though they will eventually kill the fleas, it will taks awhile, you have to wash all fabrics, b/c you cannot spray them and you have to be sure to spray ALL nooks and crannies in the house.

You can also call an exterminator, but this will be expensive and they usually don't do anything you can't do yourself. So, as much of a pain as fogging can be, it is probably the most efficient and easiest way to get rid of the fleas. Just be sure that you have at least 1 fogger per room and you may need more for very large rooms. You may still need to wash any clothing because it may smell like the fogger, but you can do it when you regularly do laundry, instead of having to wash everything to kill the fleas. As long as you do it correctly, a fogger WILL work and with the least amount of work for you. Good Luck!

Eek depends - have there ever been animals around the place? I only ask because if there hasn't been, you need to consider that these might be human fleas rather than cat or dog fleas - have you just moved in?!

Generally, flea infestations require chemicals. And a flea bomb wouldn't do it anyway - you need to go to a vets to get some proper treatment. The stuff they sell in stores are just generalised pesticides that don't do the job properly - they aren't allowed to sell the appropriate drugs.

You may need to call an exterminator, but I would try a housespray from a vets - there's a new product called Skoosh that's actually pesticide free, it coats adult fleas, eggs and pupae in silicone or something, so it kills them mechanically rather than poisoning them. www.skooshfleas.com

Been there!! Don't use anything except Borax. It's a natural laundry detergent booster. You'll find it on the powdered laundry soap isle. Just sprinkle it across your carpet and under sofa cushions. It works sooooo much better than bombs. It's also a natural roach repellent! Try it before you give up hope. It's cheap too, only about 4 bucks for a box big enough to cover my 1400 sq foot apartment five times over! Let it sit on your carpet for a day or so, then vacuum and do it again. Change your vacuum bag and take it out of the house. Don't give those little buggers a chance to hop out if they lived through it! Give me a shout, if you need more help. PS I'm a professional housekeeper, and do this for my clients. Works like a charm!

Yes there is, it's called regular IODIZED table salt. Pick up all water and remove plants from room. put down salt and allow to sit for 5 days. After 5 days just vacumn up. No harm to carpet or regular hard wood floors.

The iodized salt dehydates fleas and the eggs. Does not harm pets or any other animals like birds.

Whaaaaaaa laaaaaaa fleas are gone. All natural product and not much work. I have used this for over two decades and never had a problem..

Good Luck!!

If you have no small children either. You can go to the hardware store and buy the gallon insect sprayer. Spray every morning before leaving for work for about a week and your fleas should be gone. Just make sure it kills fleas also.

I had this issue in my sun porch. Do you have carpet? If so, it would be best to get rid of it. But I used a can of Raid that is for Ticks and fleas. I sprayed the whole floor and waited then I vacuumed, and eventually kept switching and they were gone the next day.

I moved into a house that had fleas & I tried everything. The only thing that worked was an exterminator. It was like 200.00 bucks but I lived them for 2 months. Yuck!

Look for a powder that gets rid of fleas. They either come in a box or a container that looks like a pringles can. You sprinkle it on, wait a bit then vacuum. They also make liquid sprays. Hope this helps.
