When I was about 3-4 years old (would`ve been around 1956 or 1957), my brothers and sisters and I would listen to the radio. (I still remember the dong, ding, dong, identifiying NBC). There was a song we all remember in part, with lyrics as follows..."Mountain men are mean, mountain men are tough".... I`m sorry, that`s all we remember. It seems as though the line might have been repeated, maybe part of the chorus. Anyone remember this song?

Mountain Men are Rough, Rough
Mountain Men are Tough, Tough
Moutain Men are mean and Lowdown!
Jeff York, who played Mike Fink, king of the River,
in an episode of Davy Crockett for Disney in 1955-56,
sang the song and was Mike Fink. If you want to find
the song trace it through Jeff York on IMDB. I've seen
York on Perry Mason episodes from that period, but
little else. Later, York would sing Mountain Men in
another comic frontier epic, possibly for Disney too.
He played one of the rustic Mountain Men in a Zorro
episode or two and another couple of Disney TV fables
about the same mountain men in the Zorro series. Mike
Fink, king of the River, his character in the Crockett
episode The Great Keelboat race, featured a similar
character Mike Fink who sang this lyric:
"Girls run and hide, brave men shiver...I'm Mike Fink, king of the river!
I'm a ring tailed bear and a tough old alligator, I'm Mike Fink, king of
the river!" Its Jeff York singin' the song. You can find this on wikipedia
under Jeff York. Try Jeff York Disney wikipedia and see if that's better,
or even exists. In my memory I can glimpse York in a movie with Slim
Pickens, the one trying to upstage the other with dodgey frontier hokum. I'll
have to look a little harder to find that one. I'm like all of you, these
primitives are unforgettable and wonderful.

I don't remember the song but I did a search for you and the only one I could find was a song by Jethro Tull. It did not state that particular phrase, but you might want to try that yourself. Type lyrics in your web search for Mountain Men. Good luck. I hope you find your answer.
