The problem isn't the cricket, it's the cold and the water. You shouldn't use bottled water for fish, unless it's spring water. There are minerals and things in water that fish need. I use tap water with Start Right conditioner added, let it sit overnight for the temperature to stabilize before changing. You should be changing his water about once a week, depending on the size of his bowl. My bettas are in 1-1½ gallon bowls.
Get him warmed up. Bettas can survive without heaters, but get him someplace warmer. Up high, near a window (but not in direct sunlight), in a kitchen or bathroom. Close the A/C vents in your room. The warmest place you can find.
You have to act immediately. This guy is in trouble! It may be too late, but maybe not. Bettas are really hardy fish, so if you get him in clean, conditioned water, and warmed up, he might pull through.
Go to a book store, pet store, or library and get a book on betta care. You'll learn a lot about properly caring for your fish. It's worth the small investment if you want to keep healthy, happy, vibrant fish! Good luck!

No change the water more often. The dead cricket made the water real bad and he's suffering from the stress of ammonia build up. His only chance is to keep the water pristine, you may also add a teaspoon of non iodized salt to the bowl to aid in healing. Keep using the spring water, just change all of it out every three days until he recovers or dies. His chances are 50/50 at this point. He will recover if he was strong before this happened. Keep bugs out the best you can they carry disease.

If he is swimming at the bottom of the tank, that is a sign of him being cold. I doubt the cricket had much to do with him acting this way. You should change the water or put a heating pad next to the tank to warm it up. Betta's can stand the cold, but nothing below 65 degrees.

Tropical fish = heat, 75-86 degrees to thrive. I agree with treated water, a larger tank and filter. In a bowl, toxins can add up quickly and the cricket, especially if it was dead, probably contributed to his illness. I'd say you haven't much hope since you clearly need to learn more about Betta fish. They also need special food. A happy Betta covers the surface with bubbles :)

Are you not treating the water with water conditioner or bacteria supplement? If not, it is going to die- you can't just put a fish into untreated water. It is probably too late to save him since he is laying at the bottom.

Also, you shouldn't have fish if you can't afford a filter and heater- all fish need these things.

bottled water might not be the best choice -- if you use bottled water use spring water -- thats for a lot of reasons. and change his water regularly.

try putting your fish on top of the highest thing in your room. its usually considerably warmer if you can get up above windows and doors.

I think heaters and filters are not expensive any longer. Purchase them in Wal Mart. I would go to the Pet store and ask there for help.

Wow, what's even worse is you need a new keyboard! Your capslock key seems to be broken. Get that fixed first!
