I answered a question regarding a story about a black woman being tortured by five whites. The poster said she was now gravely afraid for her safety. The woman lived, btw. Althought I found it sad an unfortunate, I pointed out a story about Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom who were both brutally tortured and murdered to show her it wasn't just whites. That all races had the potential to do evil acts like these. This couple's story also didn't make it to national news, unlike the story about the black woman.

Can someone please enlighten me on how my statement was wrong because I got like a million downed thumbs over this and i'm confused.

Thanks.

FYI, here's the links to the story I was referring to:

Dr. House - Can you be serious for a moment?

Lina-Excuse ME? The reason our race is going "downhill" (your words not mine) has nothing to do with me and has everything to do with the violent subculture in the black community that glorifies a prison mentality. It's shown through our music, how black men treat their women and how we carry ourselves. If you're going to close your eyes to THAT, then YOU are the problem, not me. Blacks are not weak, frail creatures that need someone to walk them through life. We are responsible for our own actions and if our race is going "downhill" as YOU said, it's because of our own individual choices. Don't start me on this. Seriously. Your arguments wouldn't stand for a second.

Lina-I'm grown. Don't call me a little girl. I am 30 years old, a mother, wife and college educated. I'd like to see where I said there was no racism, as you stated. I thought so. If you have anything further to say to me you can contact me on my email. Like I said, your arguments are weak, at best.

because death no matter what the race is marginalized in order to keep us at one another, another example is this whole black on black crime bit, whatever happened to just plain old crime? it also implies that black on white crime might not be so bad. by the way i'm never sure of anyones race here since everybody loves to use those cartoon heads in which even i could look black if i so chose (ya know kinda like Lina H there) and i promise you that this will keep happening for as long as folks look at it this way as sad as it is

You didn't do anything wrong. Pointing out that no particular culture is any more dangerous than the other simply makes you a smart and caring individual who does not judge on race alone. What I think happened to you is that someone was very angry about the story and stirred up that anger with his/her question and you were just caught in the middle of a hate session. Anyhow, despite all the thumbs down you got, your willingness to provide two points probably helped someone else work through their hate. Try not to feel too bad because I'll bet there are a lot of people in your life who are proud of you.

Hang in there, stick to your own principles, and don't pay any attention to the hate mongers.

There are alot more hate crimes angainst whites by blacks. The reason you don't hear about them is because there are no white people advocatecy groups. There is not a Jesse Jackson for the white man. Everyone is scared to point out that there are blacks torturing whites, because they are afraid that they will be labeled a racist or insensitive to the black man. When the news does report a hate crime by a black person against a white person, they claim it is a social class crime (poor vs rich). Thus it makes it sound ok that the black person killed the white person because the black person was poor. But if a poor white person attacked a rich black person..believe me the news would call that a hate crime and not a socail class crime.

The media and people like Al Sharpton try to promote racism. That rift sells papers and fills people like Sharptons pockets, so they look for things that make whites look bad in the eyes of blacks. the Duke lacrosse scandal is a great example, Rev Sharpton wanted those kids to hang and he never apologized when the girl's story ended up being a lie.

Black against white crime doesn't make the media money nor does it make Jesse Jackson or Sharpton money so it won't get print. And if a white person speaks out against this injustice, then they are labeled a racist or insensitive.

I am neither white or black, so i just call it as I see it.

It may have to do with history and that whites were the majority and therefore possibly more likely to commit hate crimes. In general, whites (such a broad term) have done a lot to keep other racial groups down, historically speaking.
I'm not trying to make excuses. I try to withhold judgment until I hear more of the facts. It's hard sometimes if it's an emotional topic such as violence against a person. You would think that we would have made some progress but it's hard to tell. One thing for sure is that there doesn't appear to be any easy and quick answers.

Well, african americans have been resentful and weary of racism (with good reason) since the beginning. This being said, the incident you mention in West Virginia made the news because it is so extraordinary, meaning "out of the ordinary". In other words, it is extremely rare. Still, it happens here and there, and as a result, the media sees it and posts it everywhere to make white people affraid of black people, and black people affraid of white people.

In truth, african americans kill exponentially more african americans each year than do whites. In fact, about 85% of murdered african americans died at the hands of another african american each year. The statistic is roughly the same for caucasian victims by the way.

The point is that fear of white people has become common place, and no longer has merit. A black person in today's society has a lot more to fear from a member of the black community than from a member of the white community. Obviously there are racially motivated crimes like the one in West Virginia that occur occasionally, but they do not represent the norm.

The media makes their money off selling stories. If the story is cliche then they push it and it make national news. If the story goes against the bandwagon it is brushed aside. Unfortunately people in general believe what they read because they are taught it is true. Therefore people think Hate crime is a white KKK type of thing.

Well, could you please include some kind of demographic or statistic that supports your belief that many people think white people commit the hate crimes? Where did you get that from?

This is not some kind of game to point out which victim of a certain race got it worst. It's really shallow for someone to play the race card when someone is getting hurt. No, I don't think we should ignore the problem, but since it has already happened why don't try and figure a solution to better protect ourselves or keep this from happening.

Grow up...

Yes, and same to you.

You're right!
Everyone commits hate crimes.
However, the only reason the whites get most of the attention is because they just happen to constitute the majority of the population in America. Also, they do have a lengthy history of committing said types of crimes throughout the ages. The white man didn't conquer any land by offering peaceful requests. They have killed many people's and this has branded them with the stereotype of being "haters".
Now Mexicans commit hate crimes the most in Mexico, Blacks commit hate crimes the most in Africa, Europeans in Europe, Chinese in China... and so on!
There's plenty of validity to your statement, however it was easily frowned upon due to the fact that you said it in "White America".

I am familiar with both stories. Although I did not read your prior post, this post is absolutely correct. Hate crimes are color blind and perpetuated by all races against all other races. The same is true of prejudice. Blacks are just as prejudiced against others as Puerto Ricans are, as Caucasians are, as Asians are, etc...

It's the makeup of a person -- their upbringing, their intelligence, their ethics, that determine whether they are capable of hate crimes, bias, prejudice, etc... The color of their skin is irrelevant.

A perfect example of a person filled with hatred: Read Lina's post above! *sigh*

I don't believe it's only the whites committing hate crimes. I believe it's ignorant people with stupidity for brains from different nationalities, gangsters that rather be low lives and hurt innocent people by terrorizing the streets. I’ve seen blacks attacking brown people and brown people attacking blacks. For example the South L.A riots of the Rodney king beating. I have black friends that were there and they told me that a lot of blacks were saying not to loot or burn down stores owned by African-Americans and that a few blacks people were spray painting Koreans and Brown peoples faces with black spray cans.
