Hello,

I have heard that cranial features become exagerrated as we age. After puberty, some say that skulls elongate, foreheads broaden, but I was just wondering if there was a professional opinion on this that could help out.

Specically, what kind of changes occur as the result of aging and maturation, and when do these changes begin to occur? (ie: do skulls begin to lengthen, enlarge in the 20s, 30s...?)

I am in my early 20s and would be very interested to know how, or even if, my skull will change in the coming years.

Thank you!

To my knowledge, not too much happens. Sometime after puberty, the sutures in the skull fuse together, so any type of significant growth would be pretty difficult. The musculature and skin will change over time, which will probably produce much more noticeable effects than would changes in the skull itself.

by your age, SOME of your cranial sutures might/should have fused...your 3rd molars should have erupted...and depending on your activity, the surface of the skull would roughen more...but of course, this is not the same for everybody...

No specific answer actually, but I just had to give you kudos for your interesting and well expressed question.

...your ears keep growing, and your nose gets bigger...it also grows hair, yuck.
