I was watching a program called 'The Fabulous Life of Filthy Rich Billionaires' on TMF this afternoon and couldn't get over the stuff these guys buy with their cash. Some of them were buying huge estates to live on so that they could get rid of the annoying neighbour issue and whiel I could understand where they were coming from it got me thinking. These guys probably spent their whole lives trying to make and keep friends but the minute they got a few quid they decided to spend the rest of their lives keeping them away!
Do you think having money like that would make you change? Would you be more suspicious of friends - old and potential - or would it make you a bit greedy, like the saying goes "The more you have the more you want"? Or would you just think f**k it and have a ball?!!!!

It's an interesting question, and I guess no-one knows until it happens to them.

I think if I won the lottery or something I would go on shopping in charity shops and finding bargains, as this is what I've done (through neccessity) all my life - I think by this point it would physically pain me to pay more for something than I needed to!

As far as the friends issue - I think I would be more suspicious of new people wanting to be friends, or especially men wanting more, which is sad and cynical but probably sensible too.

I don't think I'd be greedy or miserly, but I wouldn't spend just for the sake of it. It would be nice to have the chance to make a difference to other people's lives, too.

As far as the big estate with no neighbours? Definitely lol. They say the best things in life are free, but it's hard to get peace and quiet when you're poor!

I wouldn't change... my golden yacht!!!!

Nah, I don't think the money would alter me too much. It would enable greater freedom, more fun and helping charities more often, but I would feel terrible blowing the whole lot on a bunch of crap for myself.

It would also depend on how I acquired the money. If for example I took the money from a briefcase left outside an orphanage I'd feel pretty bad- winning it whilst gambling would feel pretty good and earning it through good old fashioned skill and elbow grease (not literally) would feel great.

I think I would probably make more friends and pay them to dance for me- dance my friends dance!!
And then they would go again- after the payments of course!!!

I only wanted you so you would dance anyway!!!!

But no money probably wouldn't affect things too much.

I would move to somewhere quiet. On the beach today it was so
quiet. No children only a few people sitting enjoying the peace
and quiet.I live in a part of the country which is at the top of living. But i would still move to get away from foreign voices etc
and happily isolate myself.Keep the night life.

Good Question - I would like to think I wouldn't change but I think I would. I would definitely be suspicious of friends because i would question their motives. I don't know if i would like to be rich because i think too much crap comes with it - I would like to be comfortable - but not sure even what that is as the more you have the more you want. It would be nice to be able to throw caution to the wind and enjoy squandering money and hopefully making others happy, but I think a lot of money ie millions would change any body.

I would like to have a better car, and perhaps move to a bigger house, and even travel more, but I would not buy a Rolls-Royce or a mansion,or much of anything else.
Nor would I eat in expensive restaurants.
If I had a million $, I would probably give most of it away to people who needed the money.

i think it's true to say "the more you have the more you want"..if i had more money my wishlist would skyrocket! I can imagine that it would also be very difficult to distinguish your true friends as well which may make you understandably more standoffish. I think i trust my current friends enough to share my fortune with them but throwing money at friends isn't a good relationship either. Money wouldn't essentially change me, i've always had the same spending pattern in good times and bad!

I think having money will change anyone, for obvious reasons. However, I think it is up to someone personally in the social dept whether or not they change, and if they do change if its for the better, meaning they use their wealth to do something decent for the world and help society, or for the worse, and they use it for their own material things. But pretty much everyone is going to go one way or the other.

Money cannot ever change a person, only the circumstances they operate in. A person might use money to pay for therapy to change themselves (which is difficult to do anyway) but the *therapy* would be the cause of change, not the money.
So no, money wouldn't change me, nor anyone else.

Rich People like to show off but there are so many good things in life that can't be bought. They're missing quite a lot! Their pockets are full yet their souls are still not contented.

It might. I would keep saying "it's everyone else who has changed," though!

.

But to be clear, "having a ball" wouldn't be a change for me. (11 years in college allows for A LOT of fun). But the ways I would party would probably cost more . . ..
