It doesn't make a difference, as long as they really mean it.
In other words, it's the voice and body language that counts.
Sometimes, just a nice thankful smile means much more than a refined speech of gratitude.

More often than not,I say Thank you,when people keep the door open,or if I've dropped something and they inform,that kind of stuff.
If it's a mate coming back from the bar with a pint,probably 'thanks'
