Usually SanDisk drives create TWO different drives on your PC. One of them is the actual storage area, and the other is the "Launchpad" software. My guess is that the "G" drive is the "U3 System" drive, and that there is another drive (probably "H") that holds the data in the USB drive.

Have you checked to see if the storage area is still available even though you got that message about being unable to initialize Launchpad? Just so you know, Launchpad is that little utility that you see on your tray icons from which you can usually launch whatever applications came bundled with your USB drive.

Now, the reason why you're getting that message may be a common one. Some models of SanDisk's USB drives have an incompatibility with computers that have built-in card readers. Does your laptop have one? If so, that is the problem. You can use the windows tray icon called "Safely Remove Hardware" to deactivate your card reader before plugging your SanDisk drive, and it should solve the problem.

I hope this helped!

P.S. Below is a link that mentions the problem I've outlined above in greater detail.

Go into device manager and delete the USB mass storage device witht he ! beside it, also delete the USB Root Hub, and then unplug the USB key and reboot windows

This will reload the USB core drivers and after this usually solves the problems with non recognized / misinstalled USB memory keys

It's defective you should take it back to the store, they should be able to send it back to the company
OR try it in someone else's computer, if you have windows vista it may not be compatible
