Hello - I just had a girl from France stay at my home for 2 weeks while she was visiting Los Angeles. This was her first time in the US and before coming to LA she stayed in New York for 2 months. She had a wonderful time here and did not want to go back to France! She knew nobody in either New York or Los Angeles (other than a few people from MySpace) before coming and found both places to stay via Craigslist. She had a great time here/ If you like I will be happy to introduce you to her via email. She's back in Paris now, but I am sure she would be happy to tell you what her experience was like.

I also had dinner last night with a woman French woman who has lived here for 17 years and is very happy. So far, of all the French people I have met in LA (about 10 over the years) all seemed happier here than in France!

Feel free to contact me if you'd like to talk to my friend in Paris. I think you will have a great experience here. And if you come to Los Angeles, feel free to contact me!

PS: Some people will post mean or ignorant things here - please ignore them - you will not meet anyone like that here I promise you!

Well, if you "deteste le grande bretagne" so much, why have you spent the last TWENTY FOUR YEARS of your life here - except of course for the free medical treatment and all the allowances for allegedly not being able to work. If it's that bad here (ha ha ha) then why don't you start with going to France. You keep on about being half French and you can get there for only a few quid, so why don't you give it a whirl !

Ahhh, I'd say only about a million percent better treatment than you frenchies would bestow on an Americain similarly displaced. In America, we're not quite so culturally snotty. Our diversity is our strength, so I'm sure you're welcome just like any Southsea Island native, or Latino illegal or Pakistani refugee or click-tongue talking Aborigional from DownUnder.
And I'll bet that gets to you, huh?

No, seriously, c'mon across the big pond-we've lotsa youse guys all over the country. And Canada, too...tres grenouille, I mean they even speak Francais in areas there. Where I live we have a good number of Basque-mostly shepherds and gardeners.
Here's an idea. Why not capitalize on your most profound stereotype and simply revel in your own , je ne sais quoi-Frenchiness.Even if you're not from Alsace-Lorraine, there's work. You could be a Maitre'd' no problem.
Trop amusante?

It's open season on the French. Anything goes. Even TV shows make stupid comments, and use offensive humor about the French. VERY, VERY hypocritical considering if a public figure makes a racist comment about other races or cultures, its headline news. Grandstanders come out of the woodwork to demand that that public figure be removed. Interestingly enough, a few of those grandstanders have been overheard slipping out a few or their own slurs.

However, because so many people buy into stereotypes, (as one reader pointed out,) women will love you and men....not so much. Just because your country is not as puritan as ours and uses more provocative imagery in its media, many Americans, especially those who have never left their home towns, assume that French = romance and seduction, which or course makes American men a little uneasy and want to challenge that myth.

Well, you're not only "French"... you've mentioned another heritage! You will be accepted just fine.

You will be treated with the respect you so richly deserve.

Despite what a lot of people in here have said... ignore it. They're just being cruel.

The USA is highly accepting of people from other countries.

REMEMBER FOLKS!!!!

THAT IS WHAT THE USA IS BASED UPON!!!! The USA has always opened its doors to foreigners. As it should be!

After all, we wouldn't be here if they hadn't. Keep that in mind the next time you go bashing someone for their heritage!

So... You, Mr. le fantôme dans le désert,,, don't give what they said another thought.

You will be treated just fine. Possibly better than those already here. ;)

It depends on how you treat people. A lot of Americans believe the French stick their nose up at other people. I don't know if this is true or not (the French foreign exchange student in my high school was nice) If you come here, smile politely and look people in the eye when they talk to you, they will like you.

You would be treated just like everyone else. Not all Americans dislike French people, just like not all French people dislike Americans. I'm sure you might run into a few ignorant people, but I think that happens no matter where you live. Good luck in your move =)

Girls will love you, boys not so much.
You'll be treated generally OK. America is an accepting country to foreigners..well except Mexican immigrants.

Will you bring money, and spend it while you are here?

Then we will "like" you just fine.

America is a gorgeous country, come enjoy.

I cannot wait until I can afford to visit France.
