The countertops are old (24 years) and we won't be able to replace them till next year, but until then, there is this sticky coating on each tile (some not so bad) that I can't seem to get rid of. I haven't tried anything too harsh as a chemical, just scrubbing with different abrasives like toothbrushes and sponges...any suggestions?

I would try something simple like 409. The sticky feel is obviously some kind of grease build up. Good luck! :)

Since they are non-porus tile, WD-40 should do the trick. Spray it on and use one of those scrunge sponges for teflon, work in circular small areas and you will notice the sticky emulsifying and breaking down, then wipe with a paper towel to remove the residue. I would do the entire sticky area first, then re-clean the surface from any WD-40 chemical residue (vinegar neutralizes it).

You might try using baking soda and a damp scrubbing pad. I've found that's really good for removing a lot of sticky residues.

Good luck!

You need to use Windex or a household cleaner that contains ammonia, such as Top Job or Mr. Clean. A scratch free type of scrubber will work best with the cleaner, such as Scotch Brite pad.

Hello,
I know what you mean... try easy off, the stuff for the oven, it works wonders... it also works great on bath rings and the soap residue on showers.
good luck.
