I've been treating fleas in my home since spring and can't get rid of them. First tried professionals, no good. Have been cleaning, bombing, vacuuming, and recently gotten frequency transmitters which are supposed to affect them neurologically. Don't know how long these take to work if indeed they do but enough is enough! How do I get rid of these things? This is putting tremendous stress on the family/

What kind of Bombs did you use?

I found over the years Hot Spot or whatever the brand is DOES NOT WORK - Use Raid and only raid

I try to use and extra one per floor area then recomended. Just be sure everything off, I even turn off the main power breaker. Turn off the main gas line going into the house

Mythbusters showed they can blow up the house.

Put a flea collar into the hoover bag for starters. Give the house a really good clean - top to bottom, room by room. Hoover thoroughly - under all the cupboards and bed etc. Wash the skirting boards with a stong detergent - like cillit bang. Hopefully, the fleas you have seen are one or two imposters only! If this problem does not go away, try and catch a flea and take it to the local vet - show him just to clarify it definitely is an animal flea. He can then give you some spray to spray your furniture etc. Unfortunately, the cheaper versions available from pet shops is not so good as the stuff from the vets so it is worth paying the couple of pounds extra. Don't worry too much - they won't be around long and if it's just one or two you have found - they could be strays!

Oh dear.

It sounds to me like you've got an infestation in your yard and under your house, as well as in your house.

You said you tried cleaning. But did you try sprinkling borax and letting that sit about 20 minutes before you vacuum up? And try to get a different exterminator to help with the yard and under-house problems.

Now, there are a number of aromatic herbs that fleas don't like, such as fennel, tansy, and some sages and mints. It might be a bit late this year, but next year you could try planting a lot of those and hope they spread. That should help repel the pests.

Good luck!

The safest and cheapest method of getting rid of fleas is to use a mixture of boric acid and salt. More information on getting rid of fleas is available at http://pests.in/fleas.html
