the precise 3 unfastened AV courses are Avast, Avira, and AVG (based upon the end results of assorted self sufficient sorting out labs). i recently reviewed the rankings of numerous self sufficient sorting out labs and located that Kaspersky and BitDefender are the two precise paid AV courses with those 2 swapping to and fro interior the precise 2 slots on the numerous sorting out labs. this is to no longer say that they've been significantly greater powerful than some others, like Norton's. normally, the precise names are all interior of two or 3 share factors interior the sorting out outcomes.

AVG and Clamwin are two of the best free ones. I highly recommend AVG.
If you're willing to pay a little, then NOD32 is the best.

Free is not as inclusive as the paid programs, however:

If you decide to go paid:
McAfee and Norton are good, however, I prefer Norton. Watch your Sunday ads for computer stores. I picked up a 3-license Norton 2007 for $9.99 (after rebate) -- and I did get my rebate in two weeks.
