The intent of the founders has been interpreted many ways. The system was originally designed as an egalitarian system for elitist, the powerful and wealthy white man, that has evolved to help the ordinary US citizen.

People have forgotten that even poor white people had and still endure Indentured Servitude except the powerful and wealthy white man have changed the laws to keep them in power. When a system challenges the status quo those who would be affected and lose their status and way of life will misinform and use divide and conquer tactics.

Alexander Hamilton is often portrayed as a greedy man but he was a great lawyer who would represent people that could never pay and was against slavery in the USA also he was a self-made man. Aaron Burr on the other hand was selfish.

A possible tangential is "... the power to tax is the power to destroy..." this had been misused by those who do not believe in paying taxes. The government operates on taxes and civil servants suffer at the hands of politicians who have too many perks and benefits. Retirement as a civil servant is becoming harder and pensions apply to top level managers and politicians.

Socialism can be bad but it depends on who people are and not what they are just as capitalism. It is people's outlook on life and if they are selfish. True capitalism would had never helped Lee Iacocca, http://www.slate.com/?id=2068448, when Chrysler filed for bankruptcy in the 1980s meaning if you fail we, the government, will not bail you out.
