Doc:
Not as inexperienced in military procedure as you think I am. My entire family did decades of service for this country, and still we are illegally in Iraq, a lie is tied to our reason for being there, and many men in Iraq are ready to come home and do not know what is taking so long for us, in the States to come to the same conclusion. Liberal or not, I stand with the majority on this one.
I got my Masters in Business at USC, and am working on my doctorate. To note, education doesn't make the POPE smart, neither does it do this for you nor I.

I've seen you before and know that you will only accept (as best answer) the most B.S. liberal answer. The truth is however that you mistake thirteen weeks of "BASIC" training as being all there is. Our military trains everyday, rain or shine with such courses as CAX, Mountain Warfare Training, SERE School, FMSS, etc., etc., etc.. Our military also has a minimal requirement for education. Iraq (like most of the middle eastern nations) is mostly illiterate.
That having been said, most people also fail to consider the sectarian divide in Iraq. Clearing one hurdle at a time takes time. And unfortunately, the average American is both extremely impatient (it's an instant gratification world here) and believe just about whatever you tell them. They tend to bury their heads in the sand on subjects that challenge everything their parents taught them ie: "JFK was one of the best presidents ever! For the U.S., his presidency was likened to that of Camelot." When in fact, JFK launched an illegal attack against a foreign nation. He'd decided just days prior to that launch, that it was a mistake. He cancelled the support for the operation, but not the operation itself. Some 2510 men died in a matter of four days (our losses, not theirs). Still, you would have me believe that GW Bush is the worse president ever. At least his attack was ordained by Congress.

The only "lie" was that of the Iraqi Chemical Engineer who defected to Germany and claimed WMD manufacture in Iraq. Had Carter not gutted the CIA years before, we would porbably been able to discern his lie. As it stands, we were not allowed to question him directly and now that his lie has been exposed, we still can do nothing. The damage has been done. Perhaps had Clinton and/or the U.N. had supported the first chief weapons inspector when Saddam first started jerking his chain, he would not have resigned in complete disgust. So many opportunities. Perhaps if the U.N. had been held accountable for the corruption of the Food For Oil Program. Now that Ban is in charge, things have started to change. Just last week, a vial of Sarin was found in the Iraqi office at the U.N. building in New York. Very little coverage by our oh-so trusted news media. Not the first time we've found such weapons...
You are absolutely correct about education. Look at Prof. Churchill in Colorado.
Logging off, now, I have to pick my kids up from the bus stop.

Iraq represents the same mistaken thinking as Vietnam. The government we are supporting there does not have the support of the people. No sane Iraqi man is going to fight and die for a government he holds in contempt--just like few South Vietnamese became determined soldiers ready to protect the South from the North. The North Vietnamese troops however, were highly motivated....rightly or wrongly and were excellent and brave troops.

1. It depends on the brach of Service for how long it takes to train US troops.
2. It's taking longer because the US had to train the trainers. When the US trains US troops, were filling a quota. In Iraq they had to start from scratch.
Finally, the Iraqies are really being trained. I say this because I am a US Marine in Iraq rwith the Iraqi military on the same base.

properly if he does not like taking photos weapons then do no longer connect the defense force. You shoot them in person-friendly after which you ought to stay qualified for the period of your occupation. If he somewhat needs to come lower back in I propose Air stress. this does not propose he won't flow to Iraq. Any interest could have the prospect to flow distant places. some will flow extra then others yet none are exempt. i'm a 'paperpusher' and artwork with desktops and that i've got been to Iraq two times and Afghanistan as quickly as. I surely have been in 4 years.

A lot of these Iraqi troops belong to militias with a vendetta to go after each other. It's not that these Iraqi soldiers aren't capable, they choose not to be. They join the police force and infiltrate it and report back to their insurgent headquarters. A few days / weeks later, someone walks up to the police headquarters and detonates a bomb. Now you lose 80 potential police / soldiers. Other potential soldiers won't join under those conditions, moral decreases, and you still don't know who the enemy is. If our soldiers trained in an atmosphere like that, it would take longer than 2 months too.

That training is just basic training (how to march, fire a weapon, a week or two in the field, etc). Everybody gets additional training for their job. Riflemen I think takes another 8-10 weeks, throw in 3 weeks for airborne, etc. It's more like 6 months or more.
How do you know how long it takes before an Iraq soldier is done training and sent out into the field?

The people in the Iraq army are just there for the paycheck. First time they get a real mission they desert. They think it's a big joke. There is no penalty for desertion.

what is really weird is they have been fighting there before we even had a military....how would you teach someone how to take care of them selves.... really we are wasting our time and money .... and what will they do in return for us....i think the best way to protect our country is to do it here....

Probably because our government is lying to us again and not really doing any training at all.
