I was at work and when I heard about it I went home to be with my kids. We all sat and watched in silence and we all cried and prayed.

At a conference in San Antonio with 200 FAA employees discussing air navigation sustainment issues. The hotel had TV's on in the hallways with CNN on while people got their coffee. All of us from DC with ops center pagers or gov't cell phones all had everything go off at the same time and then everything went dead. Somebody out in the hall stuck his head in and said "uh, I think you guys need to see this....".

The irony of the whole thing is that the nation's air transportation system is NEVER supposed to go down. EVER. And here you had 200 FAA employees who work every day to keep the whole thing running stuck at a conference where we were supposed to be talking about keeping the system running. They shut down the NAS and we all had NO IDEA what to do next. So we kept the conference going during the day, and drank a whole lot every night. Then we all ended up driving back home all around the country.

I was in the 7th grade in gym class and my teacher came down to get everyone and told us what had happened. We all prayed. It didn't really hit me hard until I got home and saw the television coverage and it scared the crap out of me. That's when I started crying. It still makes me upset to look at the pictures.

I was in the 7th grade so yes it was the first time I had cried over something "country related" but it wasn't the last. I've matured since and understand things better and read the papers everyday and it all affects me now.

My husband and I flew into Vancouver from Florida the day before and were aboard an Alaskan Cruise Ship. We woke up went down stairs and in the elevator there were all of these older men, maybe veterans talking about how it was like Pearl Harbor, they seemed so sad, destroyed we didn't know what was going on. When we got down to the Main BAr area with the Big Screen.....like everyone aboard was packed in this room crying, the first plane had already hit and as we stood there we saw the second hit. I remember feeling so crushed, helpless, sad, just devastated really. Our son who was 18 months old was with family in Jacksonville and we knew all of the airlines were closed, how would we get home to him? plus we couldn't call out so we were just going crazy to talk to family as so many i'm sure were. That was the second day of the cruise and it was a 10 day cruise. It held hostage our every thought, prayer, for some time to come. As far as crying, i cry even now as I write. My heart goes out to those that lost loved ones, and still today my heart just breaks for them. What kind of people would take the lives of so many innocent people? God Bless you all who lost those close to you that day, Bless those who've lost loved ones in this fight against the enemy, and those who have loved ones fighting right now. God Bless the men and women who are in 110 degree weather today fighting to uphold our very freedom, to keep us safe while we are at home in our air conditioned homes. God Bless America

I was coming out the subway in Manhattan 5 stops away and I saw everybody looking down 5th ave ....at the gaping burning holes in the twin towers. From office windows 12 stories up we watched in horrid disbelief as they fell. I thought for sure all of us on that tiny island was goners.

That's why I never complain anymore.

was in Columbia, MO and I was a little kid and when I woke up, my babysitter was in my room watching TV. She was watching CNN and they were showing a live clip of a plane crashing into one of the towers. I asked her what was going on and she said that terrorist ran the planes into the WTC in New York. We both sat there and watched the news for a long time. We were both in shock.

I was getting ready to take my girls to school when my sister called me and told me to turn on the TV. I turned it on just in time to see one tower burning and a plane crash into the 2nd. My 10 year old turned to me and asked, "Daddy, are you going to have to go away?" That day took away the innocence of my children and opened their eyes to the evil in the world. Later, it did take their daddy away for 13 months. One year of my children's life that I will never get back. But I am proud to have gone and fight so that they will not have to. That's my job.
