Unlike USA the law relating to intestacy which may be different from state to state based on the domicile of the person, is same for Indian anywhere in India, but they are governed by their religious law relating to this. For example Indian Hindus will be governed by the law of inheritance as provided under the Hindu Succession Act, 1956. So whether the person is a citizen of India by birth or by acquiring of citizenship or not , but he is Hindu by religion he will be covered by the Hindu Succession Act,1956 any where he lives in India or abroad if he dies intestate i.e. without leaving any will or testamentary disposition with regard to his estate or property in India or anywhere in the world or he acquires such an estate or property in India or anywhere in the world it being a legal heir to the deceased Hindu who had died intestate.
