...researching outer space?

Think about it. Millions upon millions of dollars spent every year just to speculate what is beyond our reach. Besides the researchers getting paid big bucks to make some-what educated guesses as to what is really out there, does anyone really care?

Yes, we are wasting time and money. The money could be better spent toward the welfare of the citizens.

I care about the space program. If the space race had never started there would be no high powered computers, microwave ovens, Velcro, those cool pens that write upside down, satellite communications, and just too many other things to list. I think that we need to continue with exploration. We should have never stopped going to the moon. Politicians stopped it, not our desire to go. Mars is only a few years away from our landing humans there.
As to the starving kids and homeless? Yes those are bad problems. And more money should be spent trying to solve them. But think of it this way. Every dollar that has been put into the space program, has been recouped in commercial endeavors that have been brought about by the space program.

I don't think we're spending enough (which is what causes disasters like the re-entry of the antiquated space shuttle "Columbia") yet at the same time we need to get our priorities straight. We do need to feed the starving children, clean up the inner cities, improve education, clean up government in general, and stop getting involved in all these stupid wars which do nobody any good, and cost infinitely more than all the space programs we've ever had, put together.

Perhaps it would make much more sense to privately fund space exploration. Exploration is in human nature, and if there really something out there, who the hell are we as a sentient species to keep ourselves from finding about that which lays beyond?

I think some money should always be put toward space research. However, millions and millions is too much. Look at the PEOPLE living on this planet. I think money could go toward making life better here than wondering about what MIGHT be out there.

It's all about money! Wait til China sends a rocket to the moon and they discover that there is no American Flag waving, no human tracks and no other equipment that the US Government said we left on the moon when we departed it.

I wonder what the US Government will tell the American People then? Maybe by then it won't matter, cause the NWO will be firmly entrenched and the people will no longer have anything to say about how or what the government does with our tax dollars.

There are pros and cons though :-

* Pros - The research may be a necessity as the future of mankind may depends on it. By the turn of the century, there may not be gravity for us any longer as most of us may be living afloat though, let alone our transportations.

* Cons - Pride's at stake here. Many scientists will wanna have a go to outer space for the sack of their fame or nations though. By doing this, they will be encouraging animal testings and this is against animal rights though.

Cheers and have a nice week ahead :)

Imo, there is far to much money spent on research that involves outer space. It's not likely we'll ever live in outer space, therefore why waste valuable money on research that is a waste of time and money.

I guess if you really think about it; YES it is a waste. Another thing I think is kind of stupid is all these organizations asking for money to help the hungry/needy; why can't they help them theirselves or get money from the filthy rich instead of average joes-janes?! It's not stupid to help those who need it; I'm not callous, okay. I think all the famous people should contribute a lot to helping others(not all do enough) because do they really need all that money!? Another way to help people is to give birth control, so they will not have children running around that they can't take care of. Just a thought. Sooo long.

I too would rather be feeding the hungry and homeless and not investing money for abortions and wars. Celebrities, sports players, and team owners make way too much money and they don't do enough with it other than buy multiple homes, cars, and complain about how this country is doing more for the people. Their money combined would feed every child on the face of the earth for the rest of their lives. What hypocrits!

I would like to see a reasonable amount of money spent on
outer space exploration. The answer to some of our problems may be out there. But if it turns into just another huge bureaucracy on the government tit, Then no. deep six it.
