My girl bought a 96 Suzuki Katana 600 and it needs to be lowered couple of inches. What needs to be purchased in order to do so? Is a "dog bone" required or a "link"?

Lowering a bike SAFELY is not as easy as throwing a lowering link on it, that is only part of the solution.
The best thing to do would actually be to take a inch or so out of the seat foam. Leaving the suspension alone doesn't alter how the bike handles.
To lower the suspension, the rear can be lowered with a link but then you need to check that if the suspension bottoms the frame/fairing doesn't hit the ground.
The forks also need to be lowered to match the rear. You can pull the forks up through the triple clamps but and this is a BUT... make sure the front wheel will not hit the lower clamp when the suspension bottoms, or the radiator/ front of the engine and the frame/fairing doesn't hit the ground.
The best way to lower a bike is to send the forks and shock to a suspension specialist to have them altered internally. Yep, costs the most but is cheaper than a wreck.
