How do I bypass the heater core in a '90 Cavalier? I will be driving this car for 2 more weeks so I need a temporary fix and am not replacing the heater core. Do I have to go through the dashboard to connect the heater hoses?

All you have to do is get a hose union and diconnect the hoses by the firewall and put in the union and a couple of hose clamps. Good luck

No you don't have to replace the core or go under the dash. Just locate the two hoses that are heading into the firewall under the hood. All you have to do is splice the two together. The only problem you are going to have is the flow into the core is a 5/8" hose and the outlet from the core is a 3/4" hose. Just find a plumbing fitting or nipple that has ends like this and clamp the hoses to this.

Depends if you have a/c or not---heater core would be in the a/c or heater ductwork behind the dash....there should be two heater hoses going to it on the engine side of the firewall which will show you approximately where it is located behind the dash. You can remove those two hoses from the heater core fittings and connect them together with a short piece of pipe and hose clamps but one hose is slightly larger than the other---1/2 inch and 3/4 inch diameter---or you can remove them entirely and run a replacement hose from where one hose attaches to the engine to the other fitting for the other hose to the engine using a piece of hose that is the larger diameter of the two and just clamp it real good and bypass the heater core altogether if it's too expensive to fix temporarily.---it does not help cool the engine normally, it's just there to provide engine heat to the passenger compartment.

you can do it under the hood ,just splice in to the two heater hoses and join them together with a connector until you can get it repaired, its a pretty good little job on one of those to replace the heater core, but by passing it will work good for now, good luck on it.

2 hoses go into the heater core at the firewall . disconnect 1 and follow it to the engine.disconnect it from the engine. now disconnect the 2nd one from the heater core at the firewall & reconnect that end of the hose to the engine where you removed 1st hose. tighten clamps fill w/ antifreeze solution & check for leaks.

On the passenger side of the car under the hood on the fire wall you will see the 2 heater hoses coming out of the fire wall, just splice them together!

go to your local auto store find the emergency splice kit take the hoses off where they connect at the firewall put the plastic coupling in so that you have both hoses hooked together tighten the clamps real good refill the radiator and you should be good to go the other option is to take the hoses off and find where they connect to the motor and see it you can get one off the hoses to reach both connection points and hook up the two connections GL
