In my experience, the three terms are usually used interchangeably. The only problem is if you are transferring from a quarter system to a semester system, or vice versa, in which case you will end up with an odd number of units.

classes are typically 3 credits. So 18 credits is 6 classes. Hours? Schools differ. My 3 credit classes were 2 1/2 hours of actual class per week. Some classes will be more hours than that.

Depends on the school. My school requires 188 credits for a bachelors so each class is 4 credits but at other schools the classes are only worth 2 credits.
