Two weeks ago I bought a charger for my laptop from Walmart. It worked for 3 days.I returned it.I told the cashier at customer service, "The charger does not work. Here is my receipt, I paid with my debit card,if its ok I'd rather have a gift card".She did the refund and put it right back on the debit card didn't hand me the receipt copy to sign. The manager was standing next to her instantly reprocesses it w/o stating what they did and hands me the gift card.Today, I checked my bank account and see they posted it back to my bank.I called because I didn't want her to lose her job and they told me I must be mistaken that they couldn't have given two refunds on one receipt. So I got the $63 back on the original debit card and $63 on giftcard. Now I am wondering if they can redebit the account later and if so how long they have?

You cannot actually red bit an account without the card or the cardholder present.

There is a security number on the card (should be three-four digits) those need to be run through the system. You also need to enter a pin.

You have nothing to worry about, you did the right thing. There is no possibly way they can rebit your account. You now how $63 to spend at walmart!

Its their mistake. You told them about the problem and if they dont believe you then go and treat yourself with the extra $63! They cannot debit your account legally. I had a similar problem with an insurance company. They said they would send me £50 clothing vouchers if I took out their insurance but they accidently sent me two lots, £100 in total. I didnt say anything and spent them. I then got a letter from them a few days later saying that they realised their admin dept made a mistake and because of this I could keep the vouchers. You dont get much free these days so dont worry about it. Ive just had a thought....My mum works for Asda in the UK, the equivalent of Walmart, I know that if you bring back something faulty not only do they refund it, they give you a giftcard too so thats what they have probably done?

The simplest thing at this point might be to return the gift card. As long as they don't try to credit your account again. Take a copy of your bank statement to show them. You're a really honest person and it's nice to know that there are still some of us around.

they can't refund your money back into your debit card.
I had a similar situation.Without a receipt,they will only give you a gift card.

If you already tried to give it back and they won't take it, that's pretty much all you can do to be honest with Wal-Mart.

Since the Wal-Mart corporation is the devil anyway, I think it would be a good idea to give it to a charity or a battered women's shelter or something. That way, someone who needs it can use the money, and you won't feel guilty about spending money that isn't yours.

You tried to give it back, and they refused it.
They can no longer take that $63 out, because you did your part.
I wouldn't worry about it.

They will probably never even notice.

And I don't think they legally could debit your account without your permission anyway.
