I really enjoyed the dark, adult fairy tale aspect of Pan's Labyrinth and was wondering if there were any other films that are like it. Thanks a lot.

In 2007, Guillermo del Toro noted the striking similarities between his film and Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia: both films are set around the same time, have similar child-age principal characters, mythic creatures (particularly the fauns), and themes of "disobedience and choice."

Says del Toro: "This is my version of that universe, not only 'Narnia,' but that universe of children's literature." In fact, del Toro was asked to direct The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe but turned it down for Pan's Labyrinth.

In addition to Narnia, Pan's Labyrinth has also been compared to films such as Gabor Csupo's Bridge to Terabithia and Jim Henson's Labyrinth. Del Toro himself has noted similarities with The Spirit of the Beehive.

Other films by Guillermo del Toro:
Cronos • Mimic • The Devil's Backbone • Blade II • Hellboy • Pan's Labyrinth • Hellboy 2: The Golden Army • 3993

Ah you have great taste in movies, however avoid S.Darko at all costs its like watching the Matrix trilogy instead of just seeing the first one, a big let down. I would recommend the following: Amelie (2001) Audrey Tautou A Very Long Engagement (2004) - Audrey Tatou Brick (2005) Joseph Gordon-Levitt,Emilie de Ravin Also recommend the following Danny Boyle directed movies Shallow Grave (1994) Ewan McGregor Sunshine (2007) Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne and Chris Evans, Michelle Yeoh 28 Days Later (2002) Cillian Murphy and also Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby (2004) starring himself and Hillary Swank and Morgan Freeman and Christopher Nolan's The Prestige (2006) with Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale and Scarlet Johanssen. And I almost forgot one of my personal favs Gattaca (1997) with Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke. And if I could add one more, if you're into Westerns try The Missing (2003) with Cate Blanchett, Tommy Lee Jones and a young Evan Rachel Wood. Speaking of Evan Rachel Wood also check out The Life Before Her Eyes (2007) with her and Uma Thurman. Hope you enjoy lol I could go on and on, but at least this is a starting point...
