I've been writing songs lately that are quite 'dark' kinda like Deftones. If you never heard of them please take the time to listen on you tube. Anyway, how can I get those sounds out of my guitar? It's a Gibson SG and I know its a different guitar than the one they use but still.. I have a Boss GT8 multi fx pedal but everyone keeps saying get single pedals single pedals!

Dude i love the detones too, You might already know but try to find exact tabs for Stephen Carpenters guitar parts , if you don't have a baritone or 7 string, then find out what tunings he used on every deftone song you're trying to play. Usually when you don't get the exact sound a gutiarist gets on an album it's not because of effects, it's because you aren't playing the exacts chord or the tuning is off.

Also if you were trying to replicate his exact setup , it's cost you ALOT, but I think this is enough to get something close to the White Pony Sound.

BOSS OC-2 octave pedal
BOSS PN-2 Tremelo Pedal
BOSS FZ-8 HyperFUZZ

there's alot of other things but it's cost you thousands of dollars, if you learn to play the songs properly then it'll sound more or less like him.

Also, don't go out of your mind trying to get the EXACT patch and sound he gets on a particular song.... Alot of rock guitarists do really wierd things during recording sessions and there are things he might have done while recording a part that you'll never find out about, but the chords and tabs you can easily get online :) Good Luck :)

Edit - Dude , I didn't notice these were songs your were writing, it's always GREAT to hear of someone writing their own music. Just wanted to say that if it's your own music, it's ok to be inspired by the deftones, but I wouldn't emulate his EXACT setup, trust me people will notice and you won't hear the end of it, Good luck again !! Hope everything works out.

Alright mate?
Nice one for giving the Deftones a mention.. those guys are amazing - totally under-rated.
The Deftones guitarist uses ESP Guitars, and they tune everything waaaay down.. are you using heavy-gauge strings like 10's or 11's?
I've got one of those multi-fx units as well and I guess your mates are right.. they're not a patch on single pedals for tone etc. A good one might be the Digitech 'Dan Donegan' model called 'The Weapon'. I've not actually tried one, but I've heard it's quite a beast.
Good luck with your songwriting... not easy is it?!!

I would rather hear you get YOUR sounds out of YOUR setup than someone elses.
