lovnrckets question and some of the answers made me really think about this.

I mean, sure, it's easier, you don't have a ton of plastic cases sitting around your house and you have to search through them to find what you want, but I think downloading could cause problems. Computers crash, you lose data, it's unavoidable. If we do away with CDs and everything, people are going to be angry. People usually tranfer downloads to discs for that reason, right? I know I do. Well, I don't know, casettes are still around, therefore I think we don't need to worry. I know I'm rambling, sorry about that. Give me your opinions if you'd like.

Thanks for the mention. Free press is awesome. :-)

This question has come up before a few times. I think we are going to be safe from that happening for quite some time. Most of this country still lacks standard high speed Internet access. That alone precludes this fear from coming to fruition any time soon. Downloads serve a purpose but there is no way they could replace the very tangible CD.

cd's are a thing of the past and it wont take long for them to die out and not be used any longer. Everything is gonna be electronic. Not necessarily all download, but purchases thru programs similar to what iTunes is. Some bands like Nine Inch Nails are considering just selling them online already, just to avoid the recording companies and all those money hungry people. Downloading will happen, there's nothing anybody can do about it without limiting the Internet's freedom. It's just something that needs accepting.

I worry about it. MP3s are quite convenient and I enjoy my iPod because it allows me to put my very large library in one little device. It's especially great for using in my car or at work. But I don't want CDs to be replaced by downloads. I still go out and buy the albums, because I like to have something tangible. I like to have something official, with artwork and liner notes. And I know that even if my computer or iPod crashes, I've still got all my music that I've paid for. Unfortunately, the record industry is dying. They may have to eventually swallow their pride and start making all albums something that you'll have to legally download. However lovnrckets did make a good point once that vinyl is still sold in some places, so maybe CDs will stick around even if downloading becomes the norm.

I am very attached to having CD's.

While I find downloads wonderful if I only want one or two tracks from an album, I have built a large CD collection over the years.

Having said that, I actually now only have 3 or 4 'real' albums ~ everything else {nearly 300 discs - all in 'double' cases to save space!}, is my own burned compelation.

There is something wonderful about the tangability of CDs.

And, of course, being 25 I grew-up listening to my parents LP's ~ I even have some of my own.

And until I got my personal CD player 2 years ago, I had everything copied to tape for my cassette walkman.

I wouldn't like it, but I don't worry about it either. There is still a strong market for the CD artwork and inserts. People also have a better sense of ownership and appreciation when they can hold the source of their music.

Besides, nobody want to wait in line for the download booth at the concert, people want to buy the CD and pop it into the car on the way home. The artists would lose money when nobody goes to the booth.

I feel sorry for the people that think mp3's is the format of now and future and that mp3's will replace the CD. I can tell those people have never listened to music on a REAL stereo system other than an iPod or Walkman. I really don't care how high of quality the mp3 is it'll never sound better than a CD. That's why I won't buy mp3's. What rubbish! To spend money on an mp3 shell of a song. Give me FLAC at least!

yes it would be sad:(
the thing is i raed in the newspaper a while back that the factories already made the last blank cassette tape so those are already on the decline .
also i kinda am attached to cds!!
its kind of nice having one with all the photos of the band in the sleeve, and its kinda part of 'the collection'' and it can go into your cd player in you car or watver.
downloads are good but.. they just arent as special as cds.
i mean a band puts so much effort into making an album but it seems kinda pointless for them to just make a load of songs to put for download:S
good points you have made!
thanks for listening to my crazy rambling lol!

I don't think in our lifetime we have to worry about the demise of hard copy CD's and album artwork, but all that plastic does use up a lot of oil and create a lot of waste and eventually, there won't be anywhere to throw it out along with all the other trash the world creates

I hope that never happens, i buy all my stuff on CD and transfer it to Mp3. Sometimes it's frustrating that the stores don't have what i want, but better for it to be rare than only by download.
Ya me with a credit card that would be very bad, 10k of debt in 1 week. lol.

your right,I mean that has happened to me before I always wondered if everything would turn into downloads...and honestly IU think they might, which is a scary realisation, becasue think of the computer viruses your computer could catch, and think about how slow it would be,having all your favorite games in it.
