Because 'war' makes a handful of wealthy elitists, industrialists and power broker wealthier and more powerful. Dwight Eisenhower warned us about the giant U.S. military-industrial complex. World War II proved just how profitable war could be, so the politicians were bought up, pricey lobbyists were hired, and special interest groups were formed to promote and encourage more war.
Thus, the U.S. got entangled in the Korean Conflict; the Cuban Missile Crisis; the Cold War; Vietnam and Desert Storm. A 'new' war was necessary to boost the sagging profits of corporations like McDonnell-Douglass, Sikorsky, United Technologies, Boeing and Lockheed-Martin. Add to that the two 'newcomers' to the government's war trough: the Carlyle Group and Halliburton BOTH have direct ties to the Bush-Cheney White House.
There's just no way "love" could make these devils billions of dollars. The Bush administration lied to Congress, hoodwinked the American people, and conned our troops into believing this 'war' had honorable purpose, when - in fact - it only served two objectives: OIL and WAR PROFITEERING. -RKO- 09/11/07

It would be a wonderful thing if that was possible but for some reason those terrorist just love blowing people up, sad but true.
