It's a nice thought of course, but I think the chances of it actually happening are miniscule.
You'd think everyone wants it, but no.There are people out there who actually want war and destruction.
That very fact makes me want to take my own life.
All it takes is for one person to corrupt the minds of others and bring the whole system down.
Wouldn't it be great if we could divide the Earth and live with like-minded people?
One of the few occasions I think I'd advocate segregation.
I'm sorry. I don't know what on earth I'm bleating on about. I'm just in the strangest mood.
I'm still searching for my field of bees, pardon the BM reference.
Everything in this world disgusts me.
Howeever, I did meet a lovely young man recently. He's very courteous and intelligent. He has helped to restore some of my faith in the youth of today. I wish more people were like him.

Anyway, back to my original question. All answers and opinions welcome.

When Osama is caught you'll get your peace but just for a while until a new Al Qaeda surfaces.

Only when everyone can learn to respect one another, as well as all living things and the earth itself, can we have peace on Earth. By promoting segregation, we would be promoting prejudice and differences, which are components that can lead to wars. Practice the difference you want to see in the world. That friend of yours is a great example. He has restored your faith and reverse your suicidal mood into something positive. Now, return the favor and do that to someone else. If everyone is doing that, then the future isn't as bleak as one would think.

Defend for what is right. If you're disagree with the war, then protest it, write your Congressman, vote for Ron Paul (haha), learn about it, do something about it..... The worst that you can do is sit there wishing that things were different.

You are right in saying that some people just want war and destruction.

But I believe there WILL be peace on earth someday --because I believe the Bible, and it says that someday Christ will return and reign in peace and establish His justice on earth. Believers in Christ look forward to that time.

I work with youth - I have a lot of faith in them. I see youth giving up their Saturdays to go work for the poor, to sit with the elderly, to teach songs and games to little inner city kids, and giving their own hard earned money to charity and doing without the latest gadget...

You said, "All it takes is for one person to corrupt the minds of others...," and that may be true, but the reverse is also true-- All it takes is for one person to speak the truth and change the minds and hearts of others, and raise up the lowest and weakest members of our world.

Mother Theresa said that we can't do great works, but we can do small works and do them with great love. That is the radical kind of truth that will change the world.

Don't take your own life -- your life has so much value and the earth wouldn't be the same without you. But maybe you COULD turn your thoughts into actions and work to enact change even on the smallest level of everyday life.

Making things right, one person at a time,
I wish you grace and peace.

I know how you feel, it's very distressing seeing the world in it's current state. No I don't believe there will be peace on earth, however as a Christian I take comfort in the promise of Jesus to come back and restore peace in a new earth and a new heaven.

I'm afraid I'm fored to agree with you. It is so depressing. Have you heard of the Sierra-Leone diamond conflicts? A mere eight years ago: and we think the modern world is civilised. And look at China - a supposedly civilised country - who have glossed over the most evil event in history. I am of course referring to the events in Tiananmen Square back in '89. They are still like this. We can place all sorts of treaties and regulations and we can surround ourselves in red tape to the point of choking - we can even bury away "the button" in some Godforsaken nuclear bunker in the Mexican desert - yet it is all futile. There will never be peace. Just pointless war after war. Our history is littered with them, and I'm sad to say that our future probably will be too.

By the way, that last bit brings tears to my eyes.

The peace on Earth will come after the sun burns out and life ceases to exist on the planet. It will float off peacefully, in darkness, into oblivion -- outerspace. This will occur billions of years from now. So, during our lifetimes here there will not be total peace on Earth.

Peace is in your mind and not outside. The best way to experience peace is cutting you of, from the external world.Like monks ,be unconcerned.Be a happy go lucky guy.The more you are concerned about outside world ,less will be your inner peace.
If you think about war, military intervention etc ,you have to admit that they were there from the day man kind evolved. It will be there in future also.

No! It's sad yes but no! Everyone has a hand in peace even villians. But people are crazily in love with money they'll do anything for it! For example global warming it's gonna effect everyone yet some people don't care. Do you? I hop you do it's for your sake. Back to the question, It matters on me, you and everyone you see when you go out. But I personally don't think its possible.

Not until we evolve into something more suited to our environment. Our instincts and desires are based on a hunter-gatherer society.

Human nature means that we are never satisfied with what we have. We want to expand our hunting ground and stop outsiders from getting in on the act. In modern society, that means we want to be rich and comfortable and have more than our share of the world's resources. So you have wealthy individuals and poor individuals - some of the poor are prepared to use violence for a share of the wealth, and the wealthy are prepared to use violence to defend it. You have wealthy countries and poor countries - this leads to war as the wealthy countries try to maintain their advantages and unwelcome immigration as people try to better themselves.

So we want peace, provided it doesn't threaten our way of life. We would like others to live in peace, and we're prepared to bomb them into doing so. We want to live in our own quiet corner of the world, enjoying our comfortable lifestyle and heaven help any immigrants, poor people, hoodies, and benefits cheats who want a part of it.
