Whether Vick was raised in a culture that thinks dogfighting is acceptable or not has no bearing. Dogfighting is illegal in this country, and he knew damn well it was when he did it. This was not a mistake, it was a deliberate act. A mistake is forgetting to buy milk, or locking your keys in your car.
There are cultures who force young women to undergo female circumcision, there are cultures that encourage women to abort female babies, and there are cultures that allow girls of 12 years old to be married. However, that does not make any of these practices any less disgusting.

I do have to respond to the person who says "Judge not lest ye be judged." I have found that usually anyone who quotes that particular phrase is usually doing it IN JUDGMENT of someone else's behavior. If me thinking that something as inhumane as dogfighting is wrong makes me a hypocrite, then I would rather be known as such then to be known as an uncaring, sadistic creep. Yes, I've made some mistakes in my life, as I am sure you have. However, the fact that I too have sinned in no way makes Vick's behavior any more acceptable.

It's hard to label an illegal activity for more than five years as a simple mistake. Personally, I don't think Vick is remorseful for his actions. His appearance before the judge was an act to try to obtain some leniency. He will try anything even ratting out other owners. I am certain he is disappointed and distraught over how much money he just threw out the window.
I have always felt that jail would do him no good rather he should be placed in a mental institution where they can help him.

It wasnt a mistake its just that he was raised in the hood and you can take the boy out the hood but you cant take the hood of him thats what it really is just the way people are raised and showed how to make money and enjoy every activity to the fullest.

Let's call it what it is here......Vick did what he did because he is sadistic and really sick. Anyone who did the things he did has to be.

I think growing up in the hood can F with a kids mind really bad and some of us come out of that environment stronger and ready to take on the world, while others are psychologically claimed by that thug life environment and never quite make it out of it and I think unfortunately Vick is the latter.

Hard to say. Unfortunately, dog fighting is a cultural thing in the south, so it may have been something Vick was raised with. As a result, he may not have seen anything really wrong with it. Heck, marijuana is illegal and millions of people smoke it anyway, so what's the difference (other than a bunch of white animal-right pushing hypocrites hurling racial slurs at Vick and telling him he should burn in Hell)?

Hoo-boy...a mistake is something that happens through no fault (most of the time) of your own, or from an oversight...
Anyone who knowingly and willingly allows this type of fighting on HIS PROPERTY..and it is ILEGAL (remember that. folks!), allowed betting, and willingly KILLED dogs in such brutal manners...DID NOT, I REPEAT DID NOT make a mistake! He KNEW FULL WELL what he was doing...he knew it was wrong morally AND legally...and chose to do it anyway...
He is NOT the kind of person I would want MY kids looking up to....his guilt is a NON-ISSUE since he has admitted what he did was wrong...
I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone could condone that behavior....

I think he made a mistake because he is sadistic and sick. His "I found jesus" proclamation didn't do anything but add to that perception.
