Valley of Fires is Pliocene to Recent basalt flows, so if you found it there it is probably basalt. Sierra Blanca is an Eocene porphyritic diorite intrusion (if I remember right). There is not much chance of obsidian at either of those locations. Sierra Blanca is 35 miles from the Valley of Fires and if you found it there it might be a hydrothermal deposit like galena.

If it was found in a volcanic area it could be obsidian which is a type of natural glass created by heat and pressure on certain minerals. If you try to chip off a piece and it fractures like glass, that will prove its obsidian. Ancient man used it to make weapons like knives and arrowheads.

Obsidian. (A mere guess, as I don't have a clue where Sarra Blonca is. I guess obsidian can only naturally occur where volcanic emission can reach.)
