Sorry, but no, you don't "need" to get onto Facebook while you're at school. Even if your work is all done and you're bored stiff, you're just going to have to grit your teeth and wait until school is out to get on Facebook.
Schools block sites like Facebook and MySpace for two reasons: 1) To keep students from going to those sites instead of getting their work done, and 2) to keep the network secure by avoiding exposure to all the crapware that's out there. #2 actually applies more to blocking file-sharing sites, but it's a valid concern for social-networking sites as well.
A proxy might get you past the block, but there are two problems with using one. First, the proxy itself might also be blocked (that's why it only MIGHT work); and second, if you get caught using a proxy (or even trying one) to get around the block, you could end up getting banned from the computers for violating the school's computer usage policy. Which would mean you also don't get to use those computers to help get your work done. Facebook is NOT worth the risk.
Finally, even if you get lucky and find a proxy that works, it won't work for long, because the school will block it as soon as they notice someone using it. You might as well save yourself the trouble, give it up, and go back home to get on Facebook.
EDIT - Geisha Chick, they're only waiting until they've got enough evidence to nail your friend to the wall. She's gotten lucky so far, but she shouldn't count on it lasting forever.

my husband loaded an working gadget onto a USB key, which comprise a browser. It wasn't residing house windows, yet another minimum OS. He purely accesses the substantial and opens that browser instead. So the area of work would be unable to work out the place he is going in any respect (except they bodily stand over his shoulder). the only background is saved onto his key instead of the computing gadget, so there is not any way for the employer to work out what web content he's gaining access to. (no longer that it replaced right into a bad internet site, purely no longer employer appropriate) dealing with an anon internet site would artwork, however the IT branch would capture on in the event that they are reviewing background, and ought to easily block it a properly. Sorry i do no longer understand the entire technique, yet once you rephrase the question below the computing gadget area, somebody there'll understand how. somebody above stated an analogous concept applying a transportable problematiccontinual - the USB secret's purely the main transportable selection.

If you really do need to use it while at school, then you should be able to get the block removed. Discuss the matter with whomever is responsible for the network and / or the teacher who tasked you with whatever task needs access to Facebook to complete.
