Use an alcohol based electronic cleaning wipe. Available at most stores.

You need something that will cut grease, since fingerprints are oil based, and as are most smudges. Pick-up a specialtly LCD screen cleaner approved by the manufacturer...and you'll find it is likely mostly Isopropyl or Methyl Alcohol. Alternatively, a citrus based cleaner can work - just be careful to remove *all* of the soap when done.

Once you have the monitor clean...use a screen protector to prevent future fingerprints and smudges on the screen directly.

Water and a soft cotton cloth. Don't use a paper towel because it may scratch your monitor. Avoid ethyl-alcohol and ammonia based products, because they can turn your monitor yellow after a while.
