ok, I want someone who is good in DNA statistics :) my grandmother has blue eyes / grandfather green eyes / my mom and I have brown eyes. My mother-in-law has hazel eyes, my father-in-law has blue eyes / my husband has brown eyes. What are the chances that our baby will have colored eyes? I am just curious

My child defied everything I learned in school about DNA. My entire side of the family has dark brown eyes, and only my husband and his mom have blue eyes, the rest have brown as well. My daughter has bright blue eyes.

Also, I have light hair, and my husbands side of the family all have brown/black hair, and my daughter's hair is medium brown.

OK you and your husband both have brown eyes so you have a 75% chance of having a baby who's eyes are brown because brown is dominant. Your father in law has blue eyes so that means your husband has has both a blue eyed (or possibly green cause that's the most recessive) and a brown eyed but I'm unsure of your fathers eyes which also contribute to the gene pool. Id say about a 25% chance to have a baby with hazel, blue or green.

IF you carry a gene for lighter colored eyes (which you may not) and IF your husband does then you have about a 50-50 chance of brown/other colored eyes. I can't say because I don't know what color your dad's eyes are. If they're light then you and your husband would both carry a light eyed gene.

With brown eyes particularly it is impossible to tell (except by trial and error) whether or not you carry genes for lighter colored eyes. That's because it is dominant and you could have a blue gene from some generation hundreds of years ago that's been passed along dormant.

With blue or green eyes you would ONLY have genes for lighter colored eyes because any other gene would override light colored eyes if you had it.

So in short, if your dad has light eyes you have a 50/50 chance. If not... who knows. Probably safe to estimate it at 75-25 brown/light but it could be lower or higher.

Wow, you aren't asking much..... giggle

Your grandmother (blue) and grandfather (green) had a brown eye baby. Brown must have been a dominate sleeper gene

Your mother in law (hazel) and Father in law (blue) had a brown eye baby, Again brown must have been a dominate sleeper gene

I would say chances are very slim that you would have a blue or green eye baby, as both genes are usually not dominate. You may be fortunate enough to have 2 sleeper genes that would cause your baby to have green or blue eyes.

My parents, one blue one brown had all brown eye babies
My in laws one blue one green had 1 blue 2 green eyed babies.

I had 2 children with first husband, both brown eye, had 2 brown eye children

I had 2 children with second husband one brown one green, we had 1 brown eye baby, one green eye baby

No matter the color of your baby's eyes, I bet they will be beautiful.

Brown eyes are dominant genes so odds are in your favor that your child will have brown eyes, however, the lighter colored genes could get paired together and give you a light eyed child. I have a friend who is hispanic and so is her husband with brown eyes, but her grandmother had very blue eyes, two of their kids have brown eyes, and the baby has blue ones. All depends on genes :)

Your husband and yourself have brown eyes, so very strong chance that they baby will have brown eyes.. if not, then possible hazel. Brown is the dominant trait in eye coloring.... and because your grandfather has green, your mother has brown, your husband has brown, your MIL has hazel..... there is a lot of brown trait in the family. But you didn't mention what color eyes your father had...Below is an eye color calculator, based on genetics...

Probably about 10-15% chance. Since you and your husband both have brown eyes, your children will most likely have brown eyes, because brown is Dominant. But there are always extenuating circumstances where both parents have brown but a grandparents or aunt/uncle has green or blue eyes and the children have green or blue eyes. Example, my husband has blue eyes but both his parents had brown eyes, but because his grandfather had blue eyes the gene was passed to him.

My husband has hazel eyes and I have blue eyes but our daughter has dark brown eyes. Both of his parents have brown eyes... They had 4 children and only 2 of them have brown eyes. The oldest my husband has the hazel and the youngest has light blue. It is likely the baby will have brown eyes but no one really knows...
good luck in having a healthy baby.

Iam pretty sure all babies have eyes with color... Except baby albinos.

Brown will always be dominate. Without looking at the genetics of the child itsself theres not a good way to knowing.

I have brown eyes, so does my dad and his dad. My mom has green, so does my gramma. My husband has blue, so do his parents. My son has green eyes.

Brown eyes are dominant, so they're most likely what your baby will get!
